All Star Music FAQ thread and tips

I have always wanted to give the Value Resorts a try and my husband refuses. This year we want to tag on one more day to our stay and CSR has no availability. So now I get to try ASMU. My one concern is night noise. He will not be happy with me if a bunch of unruly kids keep him up the night before his long drive back home. I am hoping there are no big school/sports groups there July 9th. Is one building more quiet than another. No concern about busses b/c we will have a car.

Country buildings are WAAAAAYYYYYY at the back of property. There is a quiet pool and not a lot of noise. Or so I've read, we stayed in Calypso on the back and we did not have any noise there either, but it was value season not high season.

We stayed in Country and yes it was nice and quite. But it's a looong way back to your room after a long day in the parks. :surfweb:

I think they said they have a car, and wouldn't need the bus stops...I know the parking lots go pretty far back..do you remember how close the lot was?

I'm thinking about a split stay and may do ASMu again, and don't know if I'll still have a rental car at that point, but prefer to have the car near to my building.

The parking lots get back as far as Country Fair. We really liked it back there...it was quiet enough that we could hear the wildlife in the bush behind us.

Here's a map for the resort: http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/allstarmusicmap.htm
and here's a satellite view (I've circled Country Fair in red). Parking was close, but not so close that you overlook it.

As you can see, Country Fair is far from Melody Hall, but if you want quiet and close to parking... 'nuff said? :goodvibes

We'll be staying at the ASMU for the first time this Sept. Is the Jazz section pretty quiet? I don't want to stay too far away from Melody hall, but I don't need lots of noise either. Does anyone have a good suggestion for me? Should I request a higher floor for less noise, or does it not make much of a difference?

We stayed in Jazz last August and it was great! We requested ground floor and had no issue with noise. Jazz is in between the 2 pools and fairly close to the main building. It was ideal for us! Standard rates with great location!

We usually request Jazz and we ask for a quiet area of the building (the back side), third floor. We've never had a problem with noise.

We stayed in Jazz last year. We were on the top floor in the last room at the back of the building....2633 I think. We felt like we were the only people in the building. We never once heard or saw anyone else. It was a quick walk to Melody Hall and to both pools.

SO!

1 - if I buy a refillable mug, do we have to stand in lines for drinks or is there a self serve station?

2 - I have to get up at 3am for hair and makeup for our wedding! Is there a secret place to "find" coffee onsite before the food court opens? I am willing to suck up and play nice  Can I rent a coffee maker for a night? Ideas?? I need my coffee and *** in the morning or I am a bleary eyed dork and might marry the bellhop instead!

3 - can I send the kids to the food court with our key cards to buy snacks or do we have to go with them? (are dining plan credits attached to one or all cards?? AH! Flame away, wrong thread but I'm staying at ASMu, so there!)

4 - does anyone know the arcade hours?

5 - has anyone done professional photos at ASMu? I think with the theming it would be wicked fun to get after wedding pictures there!

Whoot!

We stayed in Jazz last year and the building itself is quiet and in a perfect location but our rooms happened to be close to where all of housekeeping would meet to get towels and supplies. You would hear the golf carts running at all hours. Our mental note was to request a higher floor next time we stay. That way we won't have to worry about hearing all the traffic outside of our room. Have a great trip.

I think it is usually pretty quiet. But if you are concerned request a non-pool view. That is the usual source of noise.

OOOOh a Disney wedding!!

There is the FREE fridge/cooffee maker swap that may help you out. See the quoted post below.

I think the dining credits are on all of the cards. At least they were on mine and DH but we didn't try our kids. (they are too young to go anywhere themselves) I'm sure you can set it up either way you want - with them to have access or not depending on their trustability.

4 - does anyone know the arcade hours? :confused3 I'm pretty sure it closed at midnight.

5 - has anyone done professional photos at ASMu? I think with the theming it would be wicked fun to get after wedding pictures there! Sorry, no help with this.

Sheesh looks like I need something more than a cigarette in the morning when it ****s it out like that :rotfl:

I'm almost thinking of buying a small coffee pot (they're $12!), bringing it with me with OUR coffee, and then leaving it there when we go to have to extra room for luggage.

I would do the swap but I wouldn't want to give it up partway through the swap, and I already have a fridge booked for my daughter's medicine! I growl over coffee :)

Re: coffee maker

I trust them with my bank card so I reckon I can trust them with snack credits :D

We don't care about quiet - super heavy sleepers all 4 of us! But I care about my coffee, nicotine habits, and portability of the kids if that makes sense!

Mmmmm. Kids go off to arcade, adults nap. Sounds like a vacation! :woohoo:

LOL I assume you are using the Brit slang for cigarette. Whole different meaning down here.

I'm not even British - I'm from nw Ontario. Got into the habit because a dear friend of mine is from New Zealand and started me on the new nickname for it!
