We just closed on our first DVC purchase. I thought I researched everything, but still have all sorts of questions. I thought DVC members got ticket discounts. Is that only for annual passes? If so, am I better off getting a "no expiration ticket" for our family of 5? We are only going to the parks 3 or 4 days this year and 3 or 4 days next year. The list of questions go on...Any opinions?

On this question, it would depend when you are going on the trips. Will they be within a calendar year so you could use APs? If so, I think the break even point for APs is 8 days- or about that. Plus, there are extra discounts on some things that AP holders get which DVC member do not.

DVC members only get discounts on APs and PAPs. But you can buy discounted tickets from any authorized reseller.

We generally go to Disney once per year at about the same time, but still take advantage of the savings on annual passes. We schedule our trips 50-51 weeks apart. For example, in 2009, we might go 12/12/09 - 12/19/09. Then in 2010, we'd go 12/4/10 - 12/11/10. We'd get the AP (or excahnge the voucher for the actual pass) on 12/12/2009. That way the AP would be good for both trips. Having an AP also allows us to get the Tables in Wonderland dining discount card. That saves us 20% off food and beverage in most Disney TS restaurants and costs annual passholders $60.

For your family, you'd have to do the math depending on your own itinerary. Will you want to park hop? Will a 6, 7 or 8 day pass be less expensive (you'd need the no expiration feature) than two 3 or 4 day pases? Will you want to visit any of the waterparks? The Magic Your Way tickets are very flexible, but that flexibility means you really have to plan and do the math to find the best option for your family.

Thanks for such a quick reply!

The visits wouldn't be in the same calendar years. We want to go within the next three months this year. We are going on a Disney Cruise next Jan. and want to stay a few days at the parks as well.

Thanks also for the info about how long the pass lasts. I wondered if it was only for 2009 or if it was one year from the date of purchase. I appreciate the knowledge you have shared.

Also, do you know how much it is per point for the BVT property. We only have 100 points right now and that new property looks appealing!

Thanks again!
