This would be a dream come true! But right now I'm not sure it isn't a dream. I have logged into the dvcmember.com site in two different browsers, and I see nothing about this. Furthermore a search of the site for "smoke-free" turned up nothing.
Could someone please clarify where this is posted? I am looking at

Where's the ".........or else" in this policy? What happens if someone disregards the rule? Penalty? Expulsion? Ten strokes with a wet noodle?
I hope there is some consequence other than a scolding!

The wet noodle approach would be intersting. Through the current statement on DVC there is no visibly announced penalty. Guess June 1st isn't that far away and I'm would guess they have a plan. But to be prefectly honest, there are many of us that don't break Disney rules or polices and watch others who do (mugs, pool hopping, heelies, drinks on buses) wave their nose to the air regarding Disney rules without incident.

Reprecussions of broken policy? Well, Disney hasn't really enforced any rules they have in place currently and I again wonder how they will deal with this one.

Maybe there will be an employment surge at WDW for Mickey Police~

Well, I don't know if there are any other people in my boat or if I'm rowwing alone, but....

Hi, my name is Lisa and I'm a non-smoker. I feel mixed emotions about this announcement and here's why...I have family who smokescared1: ). They've always abided by whatever the current rules were at the time regarding where they were allowed to smoke. And now that all the hotel rooms are non-smoking they will abide by that as well. Where my quandry is, is that this is my family and I love having them on my trips to the world and what I hope is that the "designated places" to smoke are atleast conveinent.

I understand all sides, and from an owners standpoint, non-smoking will also reduce some of the wear and tear the rooms would otherwise endure. From a non-smokers standpoint, I understand all the health and surrounding issues. But, on the other side, , I don't want my family to feel like outcasts being banished to the furthermost regions of the property to smoke. And let's face the reality of things, the harder it is to follow a rule the more likely it will be broken.

Anyone else in the boat with me ? Life jackets will be provided.

It's gone..which is interesting because I saw it less than an hour ago (emailed it to my wife so have an email date and time stamped).

Which makes me wonder if DVC just jumped the gun before the official press release makes it out.

There's big difference between breaking the in-room smoking rule and ignoring some of the other rules.

Smoke leaves a smelly residue in the upholstery, carpets, walls, and bedspreads. It's difficult to clean. Trying to cover it up only makes it worse.

At other hotels, I've had to sign statements promising to pay a significant fee if I smoked in a nonsmoking room. I hope Disney will do the same.

This also raises the question of how Disney will handle rooms that will still be smoking rooms on May 31. I wouldn't want to check into one of those rooms on June 1.

And what about all the DVC owners who bought DVC thinking they could smoke? That's a lot of money to drop only to find out now you aren't welcome in your "home away from home."

What about all the people who made vacation plans a year ago, only to find out that now, THEY don't have a smoking room LIKE THEY WERE PROMISED?

Next, the Moral Majority around here won't let you have wine in your room or on your balcony, because "it's a family place."

Smoking rooms were a request, not a promise. You were never guaranteed a smoking room.

I don't recall signing anything that guaranteed either smoking or non-smoking accomodations. Maybe memory fades with the passing of years, so it's possible I might have signed anything, I suppose...

I am also torn about this. Believe me, no one hates cigarette smoke more than I do, but I do feel for smokers (the considerate ones). Deep down inside I am going , but at the same time I am thinking that this is not fair.

At a local medical facility they have banned smoking EVERYWHERE. Not in the courtyard, not even in the road that leads to it. So if a smoker wants to smoke they will have to either walk or drive a long way to be able to smoke. Just does not seem right.

I don't know what the answer is. I just hope that the areas that they can smoke are easily accessible.

So, I wonder if this is going to take place or not?

But "Like Disney promised" just isn't going to wash...especially not with Disney, itself. Read the "fine print" on the contract you agree to when you rent one of their hotel rooms....or when you signed your contracts to purchase DVC. Everything about the rooms is at their whim and subject to change at their discretion, excepting things specifically spelled out in the Declaration. Smoking, like non-smoking, is a request...you don't pay extra for it. If Disney decides to "do away" with that, and enforce no smoking policy, that's their right as the owners of the property.

Just as it is any guests right to no longer frequent Disney hotels or sell their DVC interest.

I work at a very prominent medical facility and we've taken very similar steps. There is a "smoking alcove" (which is actually about 300 to 400 sq ft or more) outside the main entrance (it's a seperate room, but the only entrance to it is from the outside...no "connection" into the facility itself), and that is the ONLY place on campus you are allowed to smoke. Not anywhere else inside, not anywhere outside on the sidewalks (and the facility is VERY large), not anywhere but in that "alcove". Given both the health risks to patients, faculty and staff AND the obvious "fire near oxygen = bad" facility issues, I can certainly understand why our leadership team implemented the policy....but by the same token feel for the smokers who have to brave the elements in winter to get to an "enclosed" area to smoke.
