(Continued from previous post 4)
Now here is where Bertram went the extra mile. During our first night at Enchanted Gardens, DW and I were talking about a crème brulee she had at a restaurant in New Orleans that she really liked. Bertram must have heard us talking because when DW said she didn’t want any dessert, he asked her if he could bring her a dessert not on the menu that he thought she might like. Well of course she accepted and in a few minutes, Bertram brought her this
Is that first class service or what? Bertram had such a huge smile on his face seeing the pleasure he brought! It is service like this that can make an entire trip something special.
That was the meal and it was just as good as we had at Enchanted Gardens the first night. My rating? Another solid
A
Why not an A+ you ask? Well, for the same reason as before, our table mates. Paulo and Vicky from Brazil joined us tonight as we expected. Just as we experienced the first night, conversation was limited. Bertram found another server that spoke some Portuguese and brought him over to translate the menu for our two table mates from Rio. We asked how they enjoyed Nassau and Castaway Cay and explained that we missed dinner with them the previous night because we were at Remy’s. At some point Paulo asked me a question and the conversation went something like this…
Paulo – Have you heard of 51 area in the United States?
Bill – Do you mean Area 51 in Roswell, New Mexico?
Paulo – Sim, sim (apparently this means yes in Portuguese). Do you believe in aliens?
Bill – (In my head: Oh hell, where is this going?) Uh, I’m not sure if I do but I do know there are things that cannot be explained.
Paulo – She (pointing to his wife) does not believe but I do. I’ve seen them, twice.
Bill – (Politely smiling and wondering if they were his kinfolk) Really?
Paulo – Sim, sim. Aliens been here long, long time. 12 meter tall aliens built pyramids.
Bill – (Take a drink of water and try to figure out what to say next. 12 meters tall?! That’s 39+ feet tall) Uh huh
A brief lull in the conversation ensued and I was hoping this was over but noooooo
Paulo – You see President Obama on TV?
Bill – (Okay, I know some believe he wasn’t born in this country but I didn’t think it was that type of alien) Uh huh
Paulo – You see men around him wearing dark glasses with wire coming from ear?
Bill – You mean the Secret Service detail?
Paulo – Sim, Sim…they are aliens.
Bill – Really? (Shut up Bill, in the words of Elsa, let it go, don’t encourage him)
Paulo – Sim, sim.
Thank God for our server Bertram!! At this point we had finished our meal and he came by to thank us for sailing on his ship and wish us well as we disembark in the morning.
We quickly said our goodbyes to Paulo and Vicky and practically ran out! As we exited the restaurant, DW, in a moment completely apropos for the situation, stated, “Holy crap on a cracker!” (For you Big Bang TV series fans, you know this is a favorite saying of Penny when Sheldon does something so totally head shaking incredulous!) I don’t know what else to say about this. I was so flabbergasted that I forgot to leave the tips I had in my pocket for Bertram, Winaya, Ivan and Foster! I meandered around waiting long enough to make sure Paulo and Vicky had left. Here is a pic I took while waiting
I slipped back into the restaurant to find Bertram. I gave him our gratuity envelopes, thanked him for his excellent service and bid adieu.
We decided to take in the show, Disney’s Believe, at the Walt Disney Theatre. It is a Broadway style show that tells the story of a dedicated botanist that is so involved in his work that he forgets his daughter’s birthday. The daughter makes a birthday wish and the Genie from Aladdin appears to make her wish come true. Numerous Disney characters join in the fun (including Cinderella, Peter Pan, Mary Poppins, Belle, Rafiki, Princess Tiana, etc.) to help the father realize that magic is real. It was VERY good! If you are a Disney fan, you will enjoy this show much more than you expected.
After the show, we head back to our room to see Foster had been busy again
And that my friends is the end of our last full day onboard the Disney Dream. To say I was pleasantly surprised with our time on this cruise would be an understatement. A lot of the people I know personally have cruised but most have been on Carnival or Princess cruise lines. Based on the stories they told, I had no desire to go on a cruise. DW has been talking about going on a cruise for several years now. As I stated earlier, I raised an eyebrow when she mentioned going on a cruise because of the news stories about someone mysteriously going overboard.
Maybe she’s waiting until a later cruise to put her evil plan in place, but she didn’t do it on this one so we will go again. The food on the Dream was top notch – even the Cabanas buffet. The regular rotation restaurants are all excellent and Remy’s would definitely deserve a AAA 5 diamond rating. We could not have asked for better service from our room steward and our dinner servers. The room was spotless and not worn at all. We did not partake in all the entertainment offerings onboard but the show we did see was as good as any I’ve seen. We didn’t get a chance to see the Golden Mickey’s or Villain’s Tonight but I suspect they will be just as good as Disney’s Believe. There were also movies showing in the Buena Vista Theatre that we did not see. A 3 day cruise is great for a first timer like me but it is not long enough to do all that is offered. We enjoyed it so much that we have booked an August, 2015 7 night cruise to Alaska on the Disney Wonder and an April, 2016 7 night western Caribbean cruise on the Disney Magic. The only thing to do now is find a cruise on the Disney Fantasy and we’ll have the entire set!!
