First, I hadn't been to Alien Encounter since 1997. My memories are faded, so I couldn't understand why everyone hated Stitch. My wife and I watched a youtube video today and I was shocked at how good it was.

Wy do you all think Disney became so PC... Iger? Complaints from overzealous and overprotective parents?

Also, I felt so nostalgic watching the old version of Carousel... Beef Stew? Mickey and Fireworks? The VERY, VERY creepy animatronic of the girl playing the guitar, staring at you when she was done talking?

HA...just thought. She was creepier than any alien in the attraction. I'd rather be stared at him with a spotlight on me than her.

Alien Encounter closed in 2003 and Eisner was still the boss until 2005 if I remember correctly. That’s when Iger took over (I think.)
Experts, correct me if I’m wrong!

It closed because people didn’t heed the posted warnings and brought kids on who shouldn’t have gone on it. Many people complained about it. It sure was terrifying. I was 10 the first time I went on it and LOVED it. LOVED it. I wish it was still around.

PC? There’s nothing politically correct about the closing of AE. That has nothing to do with it. It was just super scary and disappointed lots of guests so they dumped it.

That “ride” and the Mayor McCheese climb in thing at McDonald’s playground are the reasons I am claustrophobic today! lol

Yup.
AE was, without a doubt, (when it was open) THE most-despised, most-reviled, most-complained-about attraction on this and any other Disney board from the day it opened.

The AE-lovers were certainly in HIDING back then.

I have vivid memories of the hundreds (it seemed) of threads back then that demanded Disney remove the vile AE from the park!

I liked AE, but most people I talked to did NOT.

I still find Stitch to be so SIMILAR to AE that the biggest difference I can put my finger on is that S.I.R. is no longer in the PRE-show.

It was an attraction that scared me so much... I knew the breath and "tongue" were coming, but I still braced. same with bug. I actually had a bug come directly up.

I absolutely agree. I know that even some adults were "scared" by AE. I honestly am not putting anyone down, we all are want we are, but, I never could understand how anyone over 10 years old could be scared by a Robot show. Of course, I never saw it until I was in my 40's, but still. I didn't hate it or love it, it was just entertainment to me, never scary or anything other then amusing. The same thing applied to it's replacement in Stitch. I found it funny, very adolescent in story line, but, kinda fun and funny. To be honest about it I think the restraints were secretly the biggest problem for many people, but, when you think about it, a show in the dark could have ended up with many injuries if people decided to get up and leave mid-show. The overreaction to the scented air and artificial contacts with Stitch made me wonder about the sense of humor level of a lot of adults.

Sigh no love for the Stitch ride, and my daughter and I were so looking forward to that foul burp (LOL). If the ride didn't bring the crowds I could understand but every time we went there was a solid wait time.
