Alice in Wonderland Unscheduled Refurb

Has anyone checked the calendar to see if it's even listed as down, and for how long?

I wouldn't count on it being back up any time soon. First they have to design a fix, then likely have it approved. then schedule the build of it. Then probably run tests to make sure the ride is uneffected. Then have the fix inspected and approved.

It shows it being down through Sept 24 (the last day the schedule goes through).

Ahhh bummer. We just missed it by a week. I am glad Cal/OSHA is on the ball. The large number of deaths and serious injuries on this ride has always worried me. :upsidedow

It's funny because when I first read this, I was so naive and believed it. I was going to ask about it because I was so shocked that was even possible! LOL That was so funny!

:sad2:

Not only does it "adjective that's probably not allowed here " that the ride is closed indefinitely, it'll totally ruin the effect of being out on the "tall leaves" by putting a railing on them.

Totally agree. I am very disappointed that it is down. During the busy summer months, I think NOTHING should be down. Seems like they (whoever caused this closure) are inventing reasons to complain about.

How exactly do they stop on the track? Kinda weird.

If the ride has to shut down for some reason while people are still on it.

I've only been stuck on a few rides before - Big Thunder Mountain (on the first lift hill. We had to escorted off the ride and out), It's a Small World, Jungle Cruise (our boat ran out of gas and we had to be towed back to the dock) and then at least one Fantasyland dark right (maybe Mr. Toads but I can't recall.)

My family and I were sooo disappointed!! It was our first trip to Disneyland. We have been to WDW many times and we were especially looking forward to riding the rides exclusive to DL. We also love Alice in Wonderland. When we saw the ride listed on the closure board outside the park I just kept staring at it in disbelief!! My DS12 told me that I told him the only attraction down would be Star Tours. I told him well at least this was good reason to come back to DL real soon. We fell in love with DL and love it just as much as WDW!!! Both are magical wonderful places to make great family memories.

Here is the article.

Editor's Note 7/21: The rumors are true, and Alice in Wonderland has been shut down by Cal/OSHA. They finally called the park's bluff of working with Imagineering for years now to retrofit a hand railing system on to the outdoor vine portion of the track. None of the previous design proposals were liked by either the Imagineers or Disneyland's operations groups, in a joint attempt to try and maintain the aesthetics of this unique indoor/outdoor dark ride and Disneyland exclusive from 1958. But Cal/OSHA has no use for aesthetics or history, and they finally got tired of waiting for the park to do something about this blatant code violation. The ride has been shut down indefinitely while TDA scrambles to approve a plan to retrofit handrails on to the exterior ride track, and this unplanned closure will likely be measured in months. | Ever wonder how they keep the water from building up inside the Splash Mountain logs? Find out in today's

I'm so happy that with California's huge budget problem they have managed to find the funds to deal with this obvious emergency!

Is Alice up and running again? I was just checking wait times on my MouseWait app (yes, it is an addiction) and noticed that it says that Alice has a 10 minute wait. Is it true or is someone playing a cruel joke?

I love checking the mousewait app on DH's iphone too, makes me excited!
That would be a really cruel joke! I wish it were true though since we will be leaving in about a week. :(

Here's some pics from this weekend.
