On another site, someone with username DisneyDreams714 posted what I quoted in the post above: "so what does everyone thinks the odds are of Disney using this to retheme the ride to the tim burton version??"

You then posted here:
Oh, this gives them plenty of time to Tim Burton/Johnny Depp it... :duck:

Since it was a very similar comment, I was guessing you were the same person. Appears I guessed wrong. That is all there was to my comment.

That REALLY is no reason for you to become very rude and personally attack me, however, with your extremely inappropriate and uncalled for comment of
...If I am thinking right, your a bit of a jerk....

I'm not really sure why thinking 2 posts that are almost identical (and somewhat random) were written by the same person makes someone a jerk, but I am thinking you may want to review the DISBoards rules as personal attacks are not permitted and I thank you in advance to refrain from attacking me again.

According to the Orange County Register:

Disney officials voluntarily decided to shut down the ride starting July 15, said Suzi Brown, a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman. A reopening date has yet to be set, but it is expected to be available to guests within a few weeks.

On July 15, an official from the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health, who was at the park on an unrelated matter, saw a maintenance worker on the track of Alice in Wonderland. The state official notified Disney of a “potential safety issue,” so Disney decided to close the ride, Brown said.

Erika Monterroza, a spokeswoman for the division, confirmed that the state did not order the shut down. The state division is responsible for inspecting theme-park rides.

heheheh, who cares what really happen. It will reopen when Disney wants it to open! :) At the very end, its just old news!!! :)

The fact that Disney shut Alice down in mid-summer makes it clear to me at least that is was not entirely voluntary. If it was voluntary they would have waited until after Labor Day in September for the next off-season time. That it was rushed in the middle of summer means someone put pressure on them.

While Al Lutz is (once again) spinning it in a negative-Disney light saying, "Alice in Wonderland has been shut down by Cal/OSHA," another fan site is reporting that this is not truly accurate.
It appears that MousePlanet editor Koenig was one of the ones who started this negative view on July 19 and Al just passed it along. See http://mousepad.mouseplanet.com/blog.php?b=716. Koenig later came back and changed the story.

If this was a mistake by Al then it was not his first. We should not take Al Lutz for gospel truth - he is just an online reporter in the end.

Also, I am not sure the corrected version is true. Why would DL take Alice down in the middle of summer "voluntarily"? I suspect there is some spin going on somewhere.

Just wanted to update- Alice is now listed on the refurbs for September through the 17th (that's as far out as the hours go). It looks like the definition of "a few weeks" is longer than some of us had hoped.

No Alice for me this year...

Perhaps to keep guests and cast members like the one observed safe?

So right in the middle of summer after 40+ years of operation Disney woke up one day and realized the Alice ride was dangerous and they needed to shut it down ASAP? I don't think so. Someone twisted their arm. :cool2:

I was wondering why Alice was closed when we went yesterday. Especially with Buzz down as well. Now I know.

I was wondering as well. And the many times we walked by to see if anyone was working on it, there was no one in sight. At least Buzz had a greeter telling people the bad news. Just seems ridiculous that DL can't figure out how to put a hand railing on it -- can't they just make it green and viney looking so it will blend. Was super disappointed that this ride was down during our entire trip without warning (as I had checked the calendar right before we left.)

I personally think "voluntary" most likely means "the lawyers told them to." Aren't "lawyers" the reported reason for other rehabs like Splash Mountain's redesigned logs? So this would be "voluntary" in that no one told Disney to do it except for other folks within Disney. I don't think OSHA/etc. necessarily pressured Disney into doing it, but just made a note that caught the lawyers' attention.

I don't THINK it was a sudden safety issue, but it's not impossible, I guess. Several years ago, they very suddenly shuttered Space Mountain for a very long rehab for that very reason, right?

I have to say, I'm super bummed that it's closed. I wouldn't really care as much about Buzz or some other rides, but other than Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland is really the only ride I truly love in Fantasyland. I keep having fantasies that something magical will happen in the next 8 days so we can ride it at least once during our visit. :wizard:

OMGoodness. I am sooooo totally bummed. Our first trip to DL August 13-18 and this was our #1 ride to go on. My 9 year old has been so excited about it since we planned this trip in January. Me too, as I have always wanted to see the actual ride after reading the comic digest about it as a kid. I could just cry. I loved that virtual drawing of the vines. Disney... please do that ... quick!

I don't see why they couldn't do an aesthetically imperfect (but not grossly ugly) fix quickly and then have a later, scheduled closure so people would know ahead.

I'm going to hate having to tell my daughter this. She talks about it a lot. :sad1: She, my 4 year old and I live in NC so we can't just go back when it gets finished. I guess I'll have to hope to get an opportunity to get voluntarily bumped from our flights so we can come back sooner than later.

I'm wishing for magic too :flower3:

Oh, please please please Disney.... find a way to work your pixie dust and fix this fast! :goodvibes
