Alice in Wonderland Unscheduled Refurb

Seriously??? They are already testing it?

I had to break the bad news to my DD17 that her favorite ride (since she was 2 years old) was down.....

This would make her (and me) so happy if it opens for our trip in 2 weeks!

Fingers crossed!

I saw don't tell her...just in case it has to go back down before your trip.

Hooray for the quick fix! It may be ugly but at least it gets the ride moving.:cool1:

Now I just have to hope they don't close it again before my mid Sept. trip to upgrade the railing.:lmao:

If they are able to throw up some ugly railing and get it running in the next few days that will honestly make me even angrier that it was down in July. There is no excuse for them delaying this "fix" until a forced closure during peak season. Shame on you Disney!

Am glad for the families with upcoming trips, but not glad that we were surprised by this on our trip. Grrrrr!

AmyPond, you are right...I won't tell her just yet.

If it is open I will let it be a surprise!

Thanks for the updates!

More tarps down this morning.

This makes it look fairly affirmative that the ride is going to reopen soon. Hopefully when the whole ride needs a rehab they have better iron work to put up there.

How exactly do they stop on the track? Kinda weird.

We've been stuck on the Alice ride before. It was awesome (for us, anyway). We broke down soon after our car came out onto the outdoor ramp at the top, before it makes that left turn to go down. We were stuck there just as a parade was starting, and this was several years ago so it was a good parade, lol. We were only stuck about 10 minutes. Other people from inside the ride were able to unload, but we had to stay put until the ride began moving again.

I can see how it would be very dangerous for guests to unload on that part of the ride during a breakdown, even if they were just trying to head back into the indoor portion of the ride in order to exit from a lower area. But these railings are SOOOOO ugly, and really take away from my favorite part of the entire ride. Sigh.

I agree they're ugly and it takes away from the ride. But I do hope it's up and running when we go in late September (and stays open). DD enjoyed this ride and I know DS will too!

According to mouseplanet is should be reopening soon. But it looks like it could go back down at anytime. Here's hoping it's open on our trip in 45 days!! Fingers crossed.

From mouseplanet -

Disneyland’s Alice in Wonderland attraction is expected to reopen later this week, following a four-week closure to install handrails along elevated portions of the track.

The temporary safety fix includes turquoise railing (to match the metal fencing that runs around the queue and base of the attraction), dotted with a handful of flower cut-outs in the style of those that already decorate the ride’s exterior.

Charitably speaking, the modifications look horrible. The good news is they’re temporary. The Cast Member Reference Guide lists the attraction as closed until January 2011, so it likely will go back under the knife as soon as crowds become manageable—and the Imagineers can come up with a more attractive solution.

Oh man! I hope its not down for the holiday season, I never got to go on this ride 11 years ago (the last and only time I went) and I really wanted to go this time!!

According to Al Lutz -

8/11: Editor's Note - Alice attraction update
A temporary set of safety scaffolding around the exterior portions of track at Alice In Wonderland is nearly complete. Cal/OSHA will inspect it on Thursday, and if Disneyland gets the green light from the inspectors the ride will reopen on Friday. A permanent fix is still being debated and designed at WDI, and the major refurbishment needed for the project has yet to be slotted in to the 2011 calendar.

it looks pretty... unfortunately, i couldnt take a picture of it, but they did do a really good job at it...

Really? All the photos I've seen just show a plain green railing with some flower/leaf thing stuck on it. I hope they eventually make the railing more vine-looking or something.
