Today we have to be up nice and early as we are spending the day with Chris and Deirdre, good friends of ours that live in Orlando. We met on the Princess Cruise to Alaska and have been very good friends ever since. When we were discussing the trip some months ago, Chris suggested that when we spend the day with them we could go out on his boat. We jumped at the chance. It was agreed that we would meet at 9.00am and travel down together to Titusville, board the boat and spend the day travelling up and down the coast line.
The weather was just perfect for a day on the boat. Sunny with a few clouds in the sky and a slight breeze. Once on board, Chris took us over to show us the construction of the new bridge that he is managing for his company he works for. After this the first stop was to a nearby shoreline to hopefully catch a glimpse of some manatees. This is one of the favourite stops when Chris is fishing, and we werent disappointed. Apart from lots of mullet jumping out of the water, they saw at least 5 manatees up close. The picture is of the back of a manatee promise!
Then, Chris took us over to another area along the coast line where they saw a dolphin, stingrays and even a racoon searching for food along the shore. Chris dropped the anchor and put up a large umbrella as it was time for the picnic lunch. Sandwiches, chips, fruit and cookies all washed down with soda. Who could ask for more?
Chris cast his fishing line whilst we were anchored and he caught a lady fish and a cat fish but both were thrown back. He then took us on to Bird Island, where we saw two kinds of pelicans, some pink birds and lots of gulls. Deirdre said as it was getting pretty windy it was time to head back. I agreed as the sun was pretty hot and I was getting a bit burnt despite putting on plenty of sun cream.
Back at the boat ramp the boat was pulled back onto its trailer and hooked back onto the back of the truck for the journey home, but only after a brief stop at Cracker Barrel, to have a look at the reduced Halloween items on sale. The journey home took about an hour. Whilst Rick and Chris washed down the boat and then took it away to its storage place, I followed Deirdre into the house and stood around chatting whilst Deirdre prepared dinner. Just before the boys returned the ladies took showers. After everyone had cleaned up and changed clothes, Chris and Deirdre cooked dinner steak, sweet potatoes, green beans, corn on the cob and a delicious sweet onion flat bread. It was all very yummy. Dessert was home made cheesecake and strawberries. I can tell you I was in 7th heaven.
After such a wonderful day with really good friends we said goodnight at about 10.00pm. Both Chris and Deirdre had to be up early the next day for work, and we didnt want to keep them up. We got back to the hotel at about 11.00am.
