Alfredo's closing permanently?

I would be really happy if they put a Maggiano's in there. That would soothe the pain of losing Alfredo's. Maggiano's -- that's some really good food!!

http://www.maggianos.com/

Excellent!!
Although Maggiano's is a good chain, I would hate to see a Maggiano's in Epcot's World Showcase. Epcot should not include a chain restaurant that has other locations throughout the United States. Fortunately, there is no indication that Disney is considering this. (Yes, I know they sell McDonald's fries at Epcot, and I don't like that either.)

Also, Maggiano's concept is to re-create the type of restaurant found in Little Italy neighborhoods in large American cities a half century (or more) ago, not to be an restaurant that might actually find in Italy. In other words, it's the wrong kind of "authenticity" for World Showcase.

There's already a Maggiano's in Orlando.

I want the restaurants in the Disney theme parks to take me to another place and time. I want the restaurants throughout WDW to be unique experiences that aren't available to me around the edges of suburban shopping malls.

I'm so THANKFUL to be on disboards, this is my fav restaurant in WDW but not for anyone else in my house. So yesterday I made a trip over there to get it in 'one last time'. (I'll be back to WDW a lot but likely not to Alfredo's).

I called at 11:25 AM for a Noon reservation and had no trouble.

The food and service were excellent (as have all my experiences there been). The dining room was not that busy, but the patio was full.

The reservationist AND my server were both shocked that I knew it would be closing; both remarked that they didn't know a public announcement had been made.

Just some observations I wanted to add to the discussion.
:goodvibes

Never underestimate the power of the Dis!!! It never ceases to amaze me how much info is here before the general public is made aware!! :listen:

Bravo HH, that's exactly the way I've always felt about the restaurants in the WS since Epcot opened. Unfortunately, the restaurants pretty much cater to the average American palate and do not offer much in the way of "authentic" foods (See Norway). Though most of the restaurants do try to represent the country's "style" of cooking.

I agree, but Alfredo's was a chain restaurant (a small one, but still a chain) with locations in Rome, New York and soon in Las Vegas... probably right down the street from Maggiano's. :rotfl: Still good food though.

Another website is reporting that the new venue in Italy WS is going to be an Italian Fish and Grill restaurant. We'll see...

That's too bad. Alfredo's was the first restaurant we ate at in Epcot back in 2004. Food was very good although the price was a little high (wasn't used to WDW food prices at the time).
The service was great and my daughter really liked our server. Tall, dark, handsome Italian - oh yeah, she really liked him. :)
I hope the previous poster was joking when he said Pizza Hut. That would be terrible.

There are only a discrete number of TS options that will ever be available at Epcot. If one which has such a consistently bad rep is replaced by a restaurant which is warmly-regarded, that will be a great boon for guests.

I'm with Bicker on this one. Lets hope the replacement is a better place - and please don't turn it into a princess meal!

I agree

but. . . . .the Maggiano's here in my area are NOTHING to rave about

I can name two other family owned places that are WAY much better

I don't consider a restaurant with its other locations in Rome and New York to be a "chain". Be that as it may, WDW can't possibly be thinking of putting an Italian chain restaurant in there, can they? Good grief.

If they do, you will NOT find me there

While I agree with you, The Rain Forest Cafe is a chain restaurant & does well at Disney I presume. I agree, no chain restaurant should be placed in Epcot or Disney for that matter. I do not dine at the RCF when I am at DW for that reason, I can dine there anytime I want to b/c I live an hour from one.

I don't mind chain restaurants at Downtown Disney -- for some reason it seems appropriate there. But I agree, not in the parks.

I second the this thought! I tried Alfredo's twice and was disappointed. I am not expecting food as good as the North End or straight out of Italy but I cant believe how bland everything was. The only really good thing I had was the Chianti. No offense if you like it but this was not nearly the best Italian I have had, I honestly felt that Olive Garden does a better job.

I also hope that they do not turn this into another princess meal.

Just bring in a nice moderate Italian restaurant with good food and good service and it will be the next go to place.

I can wait to see what they put there. And just to referance the other post, I would not mind a Maggiano's. They actually have pretty good food and it a heck of a step up from Alfredo's. I would prefer that they have an original place BUT if it has to go to a chain then I hope its Maggiano's

Ummmm. The informtion posted was copied and pasted from another site. :confused3

How many restaurants do you need to have before you become a chain? For Alfredo's I count four restaurants, Rome, New York, Orlando and soon in Las Vegas. As far as Alfredo's being an Italian concept, well it may be, but Fettucine Alfredo is not. It was started here in the US as a take off on Fettucine Al Burro in Italy which is butter and noodles. So, I'm not sure how "authentic" you want to get when it comes to this current restaurant. Another Disney web site is now stating that the new concept will be a Italian Fish & Grill... or something on that order. The person stating this is a current CM in Epcot.

:cool1: Actually, that sounds good..sounds like it would be more of a lighter and fresher menu???:confused3

Lighter and fresher would be good. Our meals there have been cold and not very tasty. I love the location, but I wish the food was better.
