This afternoon I took 2 aleve (I do think you are only supposed to take one), because I was having such bad back pain. Finally, after a few hrs, the back pain subsided, but my throat began hurting and my stomach became nauseous.
Now, the naseua will not go away (just threw up) and it has been close to 10 hrs ago...
Do you think its the aleve, or somethin else goin on?

FWIW, I know there are people here who HATE medical advice threads...if this is you... :flower3:

Aleve is the same thing as Naproxin, which I took for a short time. I had serious stomach issues from taking it. I wouldn't be surprised if your issue is from that Aleve---NSAID's are known to cause stomach issues in a lot of people.

Aleve doesn't bother me, and I usually take two because one doesn't do much to combat my headaches. According to the insert, they recommend taking one when possible and no more than two. So I wouldn't be too concerned about the fact that you took two, but it's definitely possible that you just don't react well to it. I think it should be out of your system about 12 hours after you took it, so if you are still ill after that then the Aleve might not be your problem. If you are better once it's out of your system then probably you shouldn't take it again.

I hope you feel better soon.

Maybe you're getting a bug?
Are you on other meds? It is SO important that anyone taking medication, always calls their pharmacist before taking any medication, including OTC. Drug interactions can be deadly. I'm not saying your reaction is anything this drastic but always ALWAYS call.

naprosyn is nasty stuff-if you have any kind of stomach issues it will aggrivate them-and it will also make any kind of bleeding problems you might have worse. it would surprise me if the trouble you have is the aleve

Aleve, and pretty much all NSAIDs, are notorious for causing gastric bleeding and stomach irritation, even at recommended dosages. Exceed those, and the chances go up that they will trigger the conditions that you are experiencing.

"Funny" story about Aleve. You know how they used to advertise Aleve as being "all day strong" (so strong you "only needed" one a day)? Well this is a classic example of turning a lemon into lemonade. When the FDA looked at the application to switch Naproxin Sodium (Aleve) from Rx to OTC, they were concerned about its safety in the hands of consumers. To address this, they initially restricted the labeling so the maximum daily dosage was a single tablet. The "one a day" has nothing to do with it being able to provide 24 hour relief with a single tablet. The makers of Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, etc.) thought that this restriction would hinder Aleve's entry into the highly contested OTC pain killer market. Instead, P&G amazed everyone by "spinning" this negative into a marketing positive!

I have to take 550mg twice a day (the same as four over the counter aleve). If I don't eat a small meal with it, it does upset my stomach a little. I recommend eating a few crackers and/or a glass of milk when you take it.

By the way, honestly, it sounds a lot like you could be coming down with a cold. Sore throat is usually the first sign of a viral infection. If I were you, I would consider sucking on some zinc just in case!

Oh please be careful with that stuff. I was having serious shoulder pain several years ago, and started taking 2 a day...ended up with problems. Took two doctors to finally figure out that my myriad symptoms were naproxen poisoning; I can't take it ever again.

Oddly, I should have known, as I have a dear friend who was nearly killed by it too, as she is even more sensitive than I am to it (rightfully so, as her liver hadn't worked right since she was a teenager...she couldn't break it down!). A fill-in doctor prescribed it to her, despite big warnings on her charts...(I don't know why SHE didn't notice).

The diagnosing doctor also told me that it's on an aspirin base, so I actually shouldn't be able to take aspirin, but I can (though only rarely do, I use homeopathic medicines instead nowadays). I don't know why I had such a big reaction, but I didn't, and it was very dangerous for me.

Be CAREFUL.

And yes, nausea was a big problem for me (as I was developing an ulcer) while overdosing myself slowly on naproxen sodium.

LOL at the zinc advice....zinc MAKES me nauseated! Doesn't even matter if it works on my throat or helps me be better...I *feel* worse. Jealous of you successful zinc-takers. :)

Always take Aleeve with a meal or a full glass of milk. If you didn't, that might be the problem.

Thanks for all the advice... My naseua is alot better this morning.

I rarely take ANY medicines (plus, being pregnant for the last 2 yrs kept me only on tylenol), and in the past, I have taken ONE aleve for backaches, and it did help. I was just in so much pain yesterday with my back, my co-worker was all "Here, take two...I always need two"... I just did it. Never again. LOL
I did eat with it, but only half a hamburger and a couple fries....

I think I just may have a combo of things going on like some of you mentioned. My throat is still a little sore (not like yesterday either), top that off with sore back, upset tummy and that time of the month. Yay me

I think I'll just tough it all out today :cool2:

Aleve and tylenol-based products are the only pain meds that I can take that don't make me extremely ill.. Two at once should not be a problem for most people..

You said your back hurt.. Could it be a kidney infection? If so, that too could account for your nausea and vomiting..

Hope you feel better soon! :goodvibes

I'm pretty sure it reads that you can take 2 tablets as an initial dose and then 1 tablet every x hours. DH takes Aleve, bad knees.

It upsets my stomach so I don't take it unless I don't have any ibuprofen or anything on hand.

Thanks!
Yanno, yesterday a lady at work said that about kidney infection too. I said my whole back hurt, radiating up, but it was the lower left side that was hurting the most...to the point where I was walking leaning that way to help alleviate some of the pain. I only threw up once, and it was just that the nausea got to be too much! - I've had a kidney infection ONE time right after my oldest DD was born, and I just remember EXTREME pain, like I wanted to die pain... I wasn't hurting that bad...thankfully.. lol

As far as the 2 at once...I just thought maybe it was too much for me since I never take meds...and I'm not sure what the weight requirement would be, because although I feel fat, I guess technically I'm not.. lol

Anyways.. still a tiny bit nauseous today, back hurts a little, but worlds better than yesterday.

How are you feeling today? Better, I hope..:goodvibes

Aleve makes me sick.
It also makes my sister and daughter sick. One pill is all it takes. ugh.
