Alcohol policy was changed August 2015

I hope this isn't the case! Besides, if teenagers are drinking, it's likely the parents know about it - meaning making a "no booze onboard" rule won't help anything - parents can just as easily buy their teens a drink or let them have some of the wine you'd still be allowed to bring onboard.

Teenagers who want to get drunk will find a way to get drunk... I know I did when I was 18 and bored out of my mind on an incredibly dull RC cruise

Alcohol limitations always frustrate me because I don't drink wine (or beer)--it's all mixed drinks for me. So letting me bring a bottle of wine does absolutely nothing.

That said, I hope they don't change this rule. It's one of the reasons why my husband and I, as a couple with no children, choose to sail Disney.

If the teen boy issue is the reason for the possible change, I find this laughable. My DD was 16 on a NYE cruise and was served champagne on NYE by the bartenders. They then were walking around the deck refilling glasses and refilled my DDs glass several times. She was literally fall down drunk - all happening in front of a group of officers. The officers did pick her up and have someone get her to the medical facility. I tried to talk to a beverage officer the next day about serving teens and he told me it was a security issue and I should take it up with them. The Vibe counselor wondered what happened to her since they all went out on deck for the countdown and fireworks (and free champagne liberally passed out to whomever grabbed it off of the tray) but she never returned to the Vibe later that night.

Was she responsible for her own actions? Yes. But DCL needs to take a little responsibility when their own bartenders served her the alcohol.

I wouldn't worry to much about this just yet. I see this thread as a so I can't take it to seriously. to many other things to worry about. like finding the perfect costume.

Glad that you posted on this thread. I was reading through to see if what happened to your DD had been posted yet. Also, if parents are willing to supply alcohol to their kids they are going to find a way to do it whether they can bring it onboard, purchase it in port, or purchase it at the bar.

I cruised the Magic back in 2009 and they told one of my cruise friends at the time he wasn't allowed in the club the last night after they caught him underage drinking. The rest of us were either of age or weren't drinking so we were fine

what leads you to that conclusion? on (at least) some cruise lines there is a HUGE emphasis placed on liquor sales...HUGE!! to assume that DCL didn't bother to take the monetary loss into their fare calculations is to severely underestimate the corporate money machine that is Disney....I'm not sayin' it's a bad thing, just a real thing

I think the premium is for the brand. and if anything it wouldn't be the liquor sales lost by the carry-on policy that they'd try to make up first it would be the casino revenue.

We went on a Celebrity Cruise a few years ago and they do not allow you to bring alcohol on the ship. We purchased the premium beverage package which basically allowed you to get any drink that was under $15 per serving. So we could get premium top shelf drinks, wine, beer and full size bottles of water.

They give you a printout at the end of the cruise that shows everytime your card was swiped for a drink. We figured that if each drink was $5-$7 per drink that we would have spent over $1000 on drinks alone. The drink package only cost us $300 for two people I believe.

So we cost them money for us to drink on their ship!

I personally wouldn't even bother carrying alcohol onto the ships if Disney offered prepaid beverage packages. DH & I spent like $750-ish for an adult beverage package on Allure of the Seas last November. We may have drank $750 worth between the drinky-drinks and included bottled water. The biggest value to us was convenience. So worth it!

So, if Disney discontinues their adult beverage policy I hope they will also roll out some adult beverage packages.

I agree. I think if they stop letting people bring drinks on board they need to have a drink package like Royal Caribbean or Celebrity.

Of course if they have a drink package they will probably charge a "Magical" price

Her DD was with the Vibe for an activity on deck. The counselors lost track of her DD and had no idea where she went. Her 16 DD was on the deck unable to move on her own because she was so drunk and had to be carried to the medical facility. I don't care if it was NYE or not. Alcohol poisoning of a 16 yo is not a matter to be taken lightly.

Most definitely. Last September when hubby & I did a 7-night Fantasy we carried on 2 very large bottles of Crown Royal & Parrot Bay. We STILL had a bar tab just over $500. When sitting in shows or the adult venues and you order 2 drinks each....it happens. Disney still made plenty on us from the bars even WITH carrying liquor onboard. That's why I loved the beverage package on Allure. We'd order what we wanted when we wanted. The convenience was sooooo worthwhile.

To save face and sometimes due to lawsuit settlements they have to make a policy change.

Rumors from waiters on the vessels are like rumors from bus drivers in WDW.........Don't believe it until it happens. It is not impossible, but after the one time they tried to stop the perk, the biggest part of the complaints was the short notice, so I would doubt this rumors if for no other reason then the comment *real soon*. DCL would have to give this change lots of lead time.

Time will tell.

Don't think this being my first post has any bearing on the issue. Lets just say my source was not our server(wife corrected me) it came from a much higher power. Maybe fight was not the right word to say. Also to add, the process is said to take awhile (year).

I believe P&O is the only other line to allow it.

It will be a shame if they stop it. We usually bring wine on and maybe a bottle of gin. The convenience of being able to have a drink (without having to trek up to a bar) whilst getting ready for dinner is great.

We usually don't finish what we have in the cabin so it's not as if we are drinking heavily in there and depriving DCL of their profits. My hubby has the beer mug and we buy at least one but more usually two wine packages as well as a cocktail of the day most days.

I hope they don't stop it. For us it's much more about the convenience than the cost.

I agree Sarah, when I talk to my friends about trying out a Dis cruise it is one of the perks I let them know about. I am hearing stories about the cheaper cruise lines about all the little charges that add up fast. Hope you enjoy your next cruise on the Fantasy. This was my first on her and was truly a special time.
