Alcohol policy was changed August 2015

I agree Sarah, when I talk to my friends about trying out a Dis cruise it is one of the perks I let them know about. I am hearing stories about the cheaper cruise lines about all the little charges that add up fast. Hope you enjoy your next cruise on the Fantasy. This was my first on her and was truly a special time.

yeah, i've sold quite a few people on the cruises this week just because of the alcohol policy alone.

I have also heard this not exactly because of the reasons you quote but I posted last month on an alcohol thread a change was coming. But do not get any campaign up until it's actually announced, I understood it to be a limitation, you might be allowed something but restricted.

And I posted about new ships but not in production, but an order.....

Thank you. I have been getting blasted on here, lol. Of course its not a deal breaker at all but just was telling what I heard.

I appreciated your post. I thought you made it clear you had heard it as a rumor. My first reaction was "nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo."
My second reaction "Gosh I hope it's not true; I'll be mad!"
My final reaction was "Well, I can't control it and they have me hooked on DCL. So might as well not worry about it."

Either way I've enjoyed the discussion and I am sorry you've felt attacked. :(

Alcohol limitations always frustrate me because I don't drink wine (or beer)--it's all mixed drinks for me. So letting me bring a bottle of wine does absolutely nothing.

That said, I hope they don't change this rule. It's one of the reasons why my husband and I, as a couple with no children, choose to sail Disney.

You hit the nail on the head. Even though I like to bring my own I still love the drink of the day. We also have no kids but cruise with Disney because of this and the great service.

Its ok, I can handle them, lol. I love Pete and the crew so it was time to get on the boards.

Not going to believe it on the word of a server on one ship, but I would hope it doesn't apply to purchasing alcoholic beverages in port as we are off to the land of rum in a month.

If people want to bring alcohol on board they are going to find ways to sneak it on like they do other cruise lines. I really don't see the point in DCL banning it.

I bring a case of Corona on board every cruise. Bought a rolling soft cooler for this a few years back. But now Disney banned them. So I couldnt figure how to bring the bottles on board. I put them in my backpack, which sucked...

I see a guy but a case through the metal detectors. Which is now what I do..

But in Miami, I get through the and start walking through the lobby and someone stops me saying I cant bring the case. Something about the cardboard or other BS.....

I asked the person are you a Disney employee or a contractor, the person says contractor. I reply you dont know what your talking about get a Disney employee. Someone comes running up to the guy and says to me I'm fine.

Its just so weird that people dont know the rules and try to act like police...

My dh always walks right through the medical detectors with his 12 pack of beer. We never put it in a back pack. It's definitely a nice perk, and it's saves a little bit of money. I would be ok with them changing the policy if they lowered their prices, and maybe offered some kind of drink package like the other cruise lines. Like I said I don't think changing the policy will stop people from bringing alcohol on board.

Was not our server, it was a higher source. Trying to be drecreet. We picked up some rum in Grand Cam. Try the banana.

just out of curiousity, what is your reason for trying to protect your source?

We are using one of the small roll-on suitcases this upcoming cruise. We plan to fill it up, run it through the scanner and roll it right onto the ship :)

To prevent them losing their job for talking out of turn?

There are several people on this board (don't know about OP since they are pretty new) that have apparently developed contacts within the company who share information that, quite frankly, they should not be sharing with outsiders without the permission of the company. Giving away too many details could lead to them getting fired or cause the flow of information to stop. Yeah, it's cloak-and-daggery but that's the way they have to be sometimes. Kinda like reporters and sources or police and informants.

well, if it's as the OP said they were told and it's to prevent children from drinking out of their parents' stock, either it will apply to beverages purchased in port or they'll have to confiscate and hold every bottle of booze you buy in port (which I think is what other lines do). That's really nice for the local purveyors, to have all these cruise ship guests saying "sorry, we can't buy any of your wares, they are banned from our ship entirely."

Perhaps DCL needs to put in bigger safe's to store laptops, electronics, and booze.

Confiscation for return at the end of the cruise would likely be the result. The local purveyors have been dealing with those policies on other lines for years, DCL would just be joining the party late.
