Alcohol Policy Change?

Uhmmmm, You may want to check on that about bringing back the opened alcohol that you don't use. In the past, you technically were not permitted to carry opened bottles of alcohol off the ship. Not sure if this has changed lately, but I know in the past, cruisers left the open bottles for their room steward because they weren't permitted to take it off the ship when they got home.

I have read several posts that passengers bring glasses of wine (from wine they brought onboard) from their room to the dining room. I was wondering if there have been any problems with spilling the wine on the carpet, in the elevators, or on other passengers?

I have heard it on all 4 of our DCL cruises
I always left it or gave it to someone the last night at tables near by or in a bar

Even though it does sort of suck for most people, i can understand that they seem to be the only company that allows you to bring these items aboard and could be calling it quits for financial reasons

Although this would not make me pay the prices for their drinks i would just go without for the week.

I do hope that they dont go to the no soda, that i could not do without. I WOULD BE VERY upset and at that point may sail in 2013 and that would be our last DISNEY cruise..............I DRINK ALOT OF DIET COKE!!!!!

Wow, I posted on the first page of this thread yesterday thinking it would probably grow fairly fast and come back on today to 29 pages. I love the DIS. Great posts by many and some not so great posts by a few. Glad the thread stayed open. It's fun to read others perspective.

Just really happy they revoked the new policy change. Still planning on bringing on a case of rum and case of vodka Just kidding, only a bottle of each.

The information regarding the change to our alcohol policy is no longer
applicable.

Our current policy regarding bringing alcohol onboard is still in place.

As a reminder, Disney Cruise Line does not prohibit Guests from bringing
alcohol onboard. Any fragile items (including alcohol) must be
hand-carried onboard in a day bag and/or carry-on, which cannot exceed
22" wide, 14" high and 9" deep. Beverage coolers are not permitted
onboard (cannot be checked or hand carried).

Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to remove fragile items (including
beverages) from the Guests' luggage and the items will be stored to
return to the Guest at the end of the voyage. Beverage containers are
considered fragile and such items have caused damage in checked luggage
(e.g. carbonated cans "explode", glass bottles break).

Guests who request a Wine Steward to open and serve a bottle of
champagne or wine that has been brought onboard will be charged a
corking fee. If the guest opens the bottle in the stateroom and brings
it into the dining room, including Remy or Palo, they will still be
charged a corking fee.

Alcohol brought onboard cannot be consumed in any lounge or public area.

We took our bottles of liquor right into the lounges on our last cruise???

I did not know it was against policy and no one said anything to us about it, they actually brought us glasses and ice for some of it

It is great we are all sharing our thoughts on this issue. However, since you took the time to write them here, don't forget to let DCL know your opinion - whatever it might be. Even if it is only a line or two E-mail them. The report they may prepare will most likely state the number of e-mails they got no matter how brief, write:

Yeah, there is the written policy and the reality of any enforcement of that policy. When you read the policy it sounds like you can only drink in your stateroom. But in reality you can bring your drinks to dinner, up to the pool deck, etc. On the cruise I didn't quite realize the policy either and like you, bringing my own beer to dinner (one can at a time) was not a problem.

Although i have to ask this i just dont see how or where you would consume the alchohol you bring on board if they dont want it in public area or in lounges? Do you take your beer to dinner?

WE took several bottles of liquor on our cruises each time and i always take a small blender and go up to the deck and get ice cream and fruit and make my own fruity blended concoctions and put them in either a DCL glass or a cup i bring from home..............

Now i have to wonder if i am "aloud" to do this?

Where does everyone else drink their brought on board liquor?

Techincally a CM could say something to you about bringing a glass of wine or a can of beer to dinner if it was from your "stash". the thing is, how would they know. On the 15 night PC cruise, we alternated between stuff we brought and stuff we bought on board. We used DCL wine glasses (classy, I know) for our own stuff. Our waitstaff had no idea where it came from. We've even opened a bottle of wine in the Cove Cafe (before we realized it was "taboo" back in '05) with the bartender bringing us glasses, etc. He was asking us about what we brought and vintage, etc. Never said a word about it being against the rules (even tho it technically was, even back then).
I have to agree about the wine quality on board. There are some we really like (especially in Palo) but the wine packages, etc leave a lot to be desired. So we bring a few bottles for in the room, take a glass to dinner, etc. But we also buy a fair amount on board (especially sparkling wines, etc since they don't keep well). I would have been really bummed about the policy change. I'm glad, at least for now, it looks like DCL is listening to its guests. Hopefully they don't swing from such a liberal policy to what they were saying.

What a great idea!! Tell me more about a "small" blender, how small? I have seen the mini-choppers and the blender sticks but never a mini-blender. I would love to make smoothies, with or without alcohol.

I hate the wine on board, but I also hate wine on the ship. The beer tastes that same for me on the ship as it does on land(and it's the same price), and the only place I really get mixed drinks is on the ship. Chocolate martini's on the Dream and Wonder were great. If you are going on the Dream and see a bartender name Augusto ask him for a Chocolate Martini, they are great and he does it cool trick while making the martini's
