Alcohol at Disney....

Nope, not much drinking at WDW for us. Sure, I enjoy my Grey Goose slushie at France, but I have just the one. Way too expensive to buy more than that. I don't find that I enjoy life more if I'm having a drink...and that doesn't change when I'm at WDW. I have traveled with those that do enjoy their drinks at WDW though. Different strokes I guess. I choose to spend my money on other things. Alcohol is expensive in WDW!!!

It is expensive, that's why we bring our own to make room cocktails -- we like to have a couple by the pool in the afternoon. Then wine with dinner and night caps back at the hotel. We do different ones every trip. Last time it was key lime martinis!

Absolutely we drink on vacation. Part of the reason is that the drinks at Disney are good! The wine choices are amazing, and I'm never a mixed drink person, but they have some really fun ones. Plus, as long as people are being responsable, who cares.
Funny "Drinking" Story - on our last trip we were by the pool having a nice mixed drink and there was a mother trying to gather her things up to leave with her little girl (maybe 4 or 5 years old) who was throwing a fit. She looked down at her daughter, back at us and our drinks, and looked right at me and said, "You 2 look like you're having SO much more fun right now. I need one of those." We all laughed. I wouldnt have judged her if she went straight to the bar for one :lmao:

Yum!! Key lime Martinis sound wonderful!

You mean to tell me there are people who can get through a WDW vacation without alcohol?!?! ;)

While we're not day drinkers (kudos to you who can do that and not need a nap immediately after), but when 6:00 pm arrives, that means happy hour and a nice sit down dinner. Happy hour is usually at one of the resort lounges, Epcot or DD--depending on where we are having dinner. Or it's drinks and dinner in our villa (or camper when the kids were little) which I highly recommend after a long day in the parks. :thumbsup2

Can I share a funny drinking at WDW story?

Years ago, my mom and I went to the GF tea and sent my brother and my husband over to the Contemporary for dinner at Concourse Steakhouse (they weren't interested in the tea.). Afterwards, we all met up and they said dinner was good, whatever.

The next night, we were at a very crowded Rose and Crown Pub, and some people were kind of lurking around waiting on our table. I saw one of them look at our party and he said, "Hey, it's those two fellas that were trying all the expensive scotches at Outer Rim yesterday. They're never going to leave."

BUSTED!!! :rotfl: We laugh about that to this day.

:rotfl2:

Some of my best WDW memories happened after I got old enough to share a bottle of wine with my parents or, better, enjoy pre-dinner cocktails at a hotel lounge.

We take drinking seriously in WDW. After a few morning hours at the MK my group will leave the park for an hour for cocktails or beer at one of the monorail resort lounges. I mean, that's the reason why The Wave and Tambu Lounge are open at 1 p.m.!

A prior post on 'attractions and strategies' got me thinking. Someone wrote about how they had saved 1K for savings for extras like booze and souveniers. Others chimed in about how they carry their alcohol to the hotel, where they get their liquor etc etc. Then people chimed in about how 'their husband needs at least 4 beers per day at the parks to survive' or something of that nature and how they pack CASES of beer to put in their rooms.

My dad has gone to DW with us several times and needs a beer at the end of the day. I say 'needs' in quotes :) he says he's earned a beer for standiing in line all day :)

I can't imagine my dad drinking though all day in the parks. I also can't imagine my husband going on a family vacation and drinking 4 or 5 beers per day while in the parks. While that's not enough to be 'wasted' to me- it's a family trip- OUR family trip....a beer with dinner is fine but drinking a beer every 2 hours is a bit much. We've been known to order a bottle of wine and split it amongst a table of 4 but that's about it. Maybe I'm just a prude. Disney just isn't a place to 'drink' for us.

Does your family drink more than a drink or 2 per day while in DW?

Of all the Disney trips I've been on, whether family only or family and friends, or just with me friends, we easily go over 2 drinks per day. We're not smashed or hammered, unless it's an 'Epcot Challenge' kind of night :dance3::thumbsup2.

Someone mentioned someone who 'needs' 4 or 5 beers a day... that's an alcoholic. If you NEED to plan on bringing beer into the room as a necessity, that is a full blow problem. We get drinks because we enjoy them. They taste good, Disney is fun with a buzz, or in the hot months the margaritas and various frozen drinks are great. Anybody who needs to get alcohol to their room so they can have alcohol accessible to be in a better mood, needs an AA meeting lol.

But yeah, my family drinks probably 3 or 4 a day at Disney. Figure one or two at dinner, one or two throughout the parks during the day. Me, three cousins and four friends went two years ago, I think our alcohol bill for the trip cost more than the trip itself :confused3

Ohhh! That sounds yummy. Can you share your recipe?

Same here, sleeves of vodka nips. Tastes like whatever you mix it with ;-) , though vanilla vodka with orange soda in the refillable mug is sort of like a cremesicle :-)

Really never heared of that drink, may have to try it :D

Yea I am totly for it. I mean i drink for one for two, I am no where near drunk. I am on vacation and over 21 (well 18 here in Canada) So why not.

The price of drinks is sky high, next time I will be smarter to bring my own :D

I jumped ahead with this one.

I love drinking at the world... wherever i can especially at epcot..

one complaint... at epcot/mexico ... the margaritas from the stand outside one word WEAK.

I paid $14 for a margarita with "Patron" - it was like drinking a slurpee from 7-11

If theyre gonna charge that much for a drink.. make it worth it!

Inside at La Cava del Tequila.. no complaints. This particular night was EMH (evening) and inside closed early - reason why I got one from outside.

I guess I'm in trouble since some of the bartenders know my name :rotfl2:.

LMAO! When we spent a weekend at the Nickelodeon Hotel the bartender knew my name, room #, and drink order :lmao:

Maybe it's a MA thing, but you said it best! :worship:

Have fun, but don't go overboard I say.....if you do you hopefully don't have kids!

I may live in FL, but raised in MA, so maybe that is what it is :thumbsup2

Loving this thread!

I am the one OP was talking about how her DH needed 4 beers per day. Actually I said I gave him a budget of 4 purchased beers a day or approx $150 for our 6 days there. I don't want any confusion that he "needs" 4-5 beers a day, since a PP stated that was an alcoholic.

But I am glad to see we aren't the only ones who like to drink at WDW. One of my favorites things about staying on property is that we can have a few drinks and someone else drives us home.

Cheers! :drinking1

Exactly!!

Yep, me too.

As long as someone isn't drunk and making others uncomfortable, why would anyone else care? :confused3

:thumbsup2 ditto!

La Cava and San Angel = <3

If DH & I had a car at WDW we would bring in a case of beer for our 6 day trip. It would be cheaper than buying a beer or 2 at the pool. But since we use ME we pay the Disney price. We also enjoy a drink with lunch & dinner plus a beverage or 2 when we stop at POR to see Yeehaw Bob.
We aren't driving or looking after children. It isn't anything we don't do on a vacation in other places

we usually drive. but when we fly, we make a trip to downtown disney the first night or the 2nd. eat at DTD (earl or san. or use the Planet Hollywood voucher)

anyway there is a hess gas station across the street (Buena Vista Drive) from DTD it is at the stop light by the marketplace bus stop

just cross at the light, and buy your beer there. reasoanble price (about $10 or so for an 18 pack of miller Lite). you can also buy wine, I think, and snacks.
they let you bring it on the bus. now we have beer for the rest of the trip in the room!
