Alcohol at Be Our Guest

I was on the phone for hours to get my ADR to BOG... I think that a glass of wine for myself, and a beer for my husband will make it a little more magical.

No problem here at all. I feel he was very consistant in in this idea of no alcohol in the MK.........I just cannot beleive he would have changed his mind.

So following that logic, you think Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and the rest of Walt Disney World is a bad idea as it's undeniably far from the Disney World he originally planned?

As to the slippery slope, I do have proof, EPCOT opened with only alcohol in the table restuarents.....now it in carts...........ever been to the F and W during a weekend?....... it slowly becoming a throw back to the dirty parks you mentioned.MK.........I just cannot beleive he would have changed his mind.

Firstly, that isn't proof. Unless you have documented evidence that the results of one lead to another. You don't. What you're doing is implying that correlation implies causation and that is not true. When you have evidence that the decision to expand the alcohol offerings was SOLELY the result of the initial alcohol sales (as opposed to being part of a long term plan for instance) then you will have grounds to make that assumption. Until then it's speculation.

Secondly, this gives me the impression that you've never really been to a grimy carnival. It isn't slowly becoming that at all.

As to the other parks I dont think Walt would have been againist it.........he enjoyed his scotch mists every night in the office! The other parks are not the MK though!

I'm not talking about the other parks having alcohol. I'm talking about the other parks existing at all. You don't top pigs with pigs was a saying that Walt himself coined. He had no interest in making more theme parks. He's been quoted as saying that it didn't interest him because Disneyland was the place where he could evolve the theme park idea whenever he wanted to. The florida Magic Kingdom was only to act is a source of revenue and tourism for EPCOT, the true purpose of the property in Florida. Anyone who studied Walt would know this. Epcot was far from what he envisioned and the other parks weren't even in his plans. All one has to do is look at the Florida Project plans in the famous EPCOT movie to see that WDW today is far from what he was planning. So following your logic, you're against WDW as much as you're against alcohol in the MK.

As to pompous; I never mentioned my knowledge of the man until I was mocked and attacked and told I cannot say that!

You were told you couldn't say that because YOU CAN'T. Reading about Walt's history does not justify ANYONE making claims of knowing what he would or wouldn't want. Not me. Not you. Not ANYONE.

So what's next- champagne at CRT? Chianti at Tony's? Bud Light at the Plaza?
Honey mead at Crystal Palace? I am NOT pleased with this turn of events at all. :sad2:

How about secret answer number 4: None of that. You're suffering from the slippery slope fallacy and doing so is promoting sensationalism. A does not automatically lead to Z.

I really think they will look at the number from the alcohol sold during that time frame and say WOW! We got a chance to really increase the revenue for the park

. The Disney Corporation has a responsibility to its shareholders to do just this, increase revenue for the park. We all are entitled to our own opinions as to how the revenues are increased and alcohol sales are and will always be a hot button topic, just like they are at sports venues.

I can't wait to drag my kids in by their leashes to start this all night chug-fest....I wonder if I can take my resort refillable mug and use it for refills on all this beer and wine I plan on guzzling.

I plan to get good and tanked and then head on over to the Haunted Mansion to do a little flash photography...then maybe after it's all said and done and I'm still good and lit...I'll do a little late night resort pool hopping...with my refillable mug in hand of course....yay freeeeeeee soda!

Now if only they would make Disney World Adults Only...then we'd be in business!

I think I'll send an email suggesting that.

Since the thread about the blog post was closed I thought I'd put this here. I never did get to post in there that I felt the blog post title itself was frankly saddening to me since it was the only one I've seen that was more opinion that fact, imho :surfweb: Anywho...

Skipper, not to troll or anything, but can you tell me where the interview or document or whatever it is that you're basing this on can be found? I'm really interested to know. The only things I've been able to find are references to keeping the "rowdies" of the time out of DL. Fine wines and an imported beer would hardly be the drinks of these rowdies.

We do live in a very different society, than what existed in 1955 or 1971. This is our "great big, beautiful tomorrow." Smoking in other than designated areas has been out since at least 2007. There have been innumerable changes to DL and WDW since Walt's death. Should everything have stopped to keep it as Walt envisioned it at the moment of his death? I think that would most certainly go against a couple of his most well-known public statements:

"It's something that will never be finished. Something that I can keep developing...and adding to."

"Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world."

This is development and addition, nothing more. If anything, I would say that it fulfills another of Walt's quotes:

"We believed in our idea - a family park where parents and children could have fun-together."

Mainly, I really hope that this one change will not change your experience of the Magic Kingdom to a negative one. I can tell from the sheer number of posts of yours I've read that you obviously feel very strongly about this. Please don't let one thing turn so much joy so sour for you.

Hell NO!......Disney is in my blood! its in our families blood. I grew up Sundays nights with The Wonderful World of Color, my kids have as well watch the disney old shows and the new ones. We have made 10 or 11 trips over the years. I met and enjoyed long talks with a few of the orginial disney imagineers....I am sad to see the way somethings have changed and happy to see some new things. I feel Walt would be amazed and thrilled at the use of the new techno stuff..he lived to use anything new.

AS to the alcohol.........my belief is that he would still want the MK's alcohol free..........and I still belief in his reasons why!

As I noted above my proof is how Epcot is slowly getting more and more drunks (and I dont mean folks enjoying a few drinks).I mean drunks peeing in bushs, falling over a strollers, both I have seen at Fand W and many other posters have as well.

I respect your points on times have changed and can, but I feel this issue isn't one that should be changed with time.

Count me in! I'll bring some expired FP's, the matching T-shirts, and Brazilian flag ;)

I played Pop Warner football. Can I come too? And I'll bring my four year-old, who, I swear, looks like he's two.

Cheers:

This argument always makes me laugh. I have been to EPCOT more times then I can count, both during food and wine and not. I have never seen anyone out of control drunk, peeing in bushes, throwing up or stumbling around. Have I seen people drunk. Guess so. Usually I just see people having fun. Nobody out of control or over the top. Sometimes I think people see more then there is when they are heavily opposed to things.

Seriously, there are several things about Disney that Walt probably would not want i.e. $35 less than mediocre steaks, cast members who steal tourists iPhones, Justin Bieber. I myself prefer wine over those four things and I'm sure Walt would too.

And if it did happen, then what?

In 50 trips to Disney over the last 40 years, many of them to Disney's other parks where drinking is "rampant", I can honestly say, I've never seen anyone behave in a drunken disorderly manner! Why would it be any different at MK, it's pretty much the same people? i've been to Food and Wine twice, I didn't see any drunks then either!

That's called anecdotal evidence, and it's the least reliable form of evidence. I've been going to Disney since I was around six and I've never see drunks at Epcot. Clearly that means there's NO alcohol problem. See how that works?

Now, someone always has to take it too far! Picking on the Bieb, really you should be ashamed of yourself! :rotfl2:

Oh good lord. The theatrics...

People are acting like this was a decision made in a vacuum. Disney doesn't make a move without research and evaluation. They obviously found that there a market for alcohol at one restaurant in the MK.

Email all you want, but it's not going away. Of course there will be some backlash, and certainly Disney expected it. Of course most emails about this issue are against it; the people perfectly happy with it see no reason to shoot off congratulatory messages to the company.

Good point!

So, with that in mind, I've just fired off this e-mail to Guest Services:

To whom it may concern,

I heard today that the new Be Our Guest restaurant will be offering wine and beer with dinner. I don't personally drink alcohol, but my husband does, and I can easily understand how a good wine might enhance someone's fine dining experience.

So, I'm just writing to say that I think this is a marvelous idea.

Sadly, I missed out on a chance to book an advance dining reservation at Be Our Guest this first week of December. I sat on the phone all morning when reservations opened, and they were booked solid by the time I got through. However, I am sure we will enjoy eating there on some future trip.

Signed (Me)

Cheers, everyone! :wizard:

I'm in with all of you! Afterwards, let's hop on Pirates and jump out so we can enjoy our alcohol with the rowdy pirates. I'll bring multiple refillable mugs from years past, for anybody who forgets theirs. I'm also bringing expired room keys so we can all try to enjoy EMH, even if your not staying on site. It's going to be QUITE the party. VIVA LA RULE BREAKING MAYHEM!

Just becuase you have not seen it doesnt mean I didnt.

Please dont call me a liar
