Are there any opportunities (through DCL or independent) to walk on a glacier on the Alaskan cruises w/out flying out to one. Thank you for any insight.

When we went to Alaska a few years ago on DCL, there weren't any options to do that through Disney, but two friends recommended Above & Beyond Alaska. We did a kayak tour out to Mendenhall Glacier and got to walk on it and climb it. They provided everything and it was an amazing adventure for us. Our friends did a hike to the glacier instead of the kayaking and also enjoyed it. Because of the personal recommendations, I didn't look carefully to see if there were other tour companies that provided similar opportunities, so hopefully others will chime in here. We really did not want to go by air and this worked well for us. We loved our DCL Alaska cruise!

Great info. Thank you!

Yes, I would say that you should definitely book this excursion independently.

If you can make it work, I highly recommend the helicopter/glacier walk! We booked independently and it was an amazing experience - while everyone was going to Mendenhall, our pilot flew us to a glacier a little further away and we had it all to ourselves. It was phenomenal!

Sounds great. I'm asking for a friend who will be on the cruise with us and is looking for a "walk" on a glacier without a flight. Personally, we are doing a whale watch and mendenhall.

Is that because she doesn't want to fly? How is she with walking? Most glacier require a bit of heavy walking to actually get to them, if you don't fly.

Walking is fine, but excessive hiking might be rough on the kids! I realize she may not find something that meets the criteria.
