Alaska on July 19th, 2011 "Where a good tan is hard to find"

Hi all,

Been busy with DGD but now we have to get serious as I haven't packed a thing and leave Fri. eve.:sad2:

Anyway, has anyone heard anything about wifi availability in the ports. What about cell phone signal in the ports. We're bringing the laptop but hope to keep in touch by cell when we dock. What about internet on board? The Baltic and Med were horrible with internet signals from the room, but cell was ok.

We checked with our carriers, AT&T and Verizon, both stated there is service in the area we are going (and it is covered in our plans), obviously there may be some areas that do not get service. Best bet is to check with your provider.

I posted the info about 1month ago on where you can get wifi and cell info...

So just checked the 10 day weather and for Vancouver and whistler it will be raining the whole time my family is there...it is sunny before we get there and than sunny after we leave...go figure :upsidedow 7 days of rain with all our outside fun planned is a drag...but will have fun anyway....just a lot of money to spend to play in the rain EVERYDAY...ugh

However for our sail away party it will be sunny :woohoo::dance3:

The folks in Alaska this week have a lot of rain so know doubt we will also...but no surprise I guess..we knew it rained a lot.

I hope it does not cause my trek on the glacier and helicopter ride to get cancelled

On that note I will look at the weather to see how it changes and post here as we get close for the 10 day outlook.....but remember 10 days out things can always change either way....

by the way the FEs are done.....the adults I made myself the kids are store bought....just be sure not to look to closely at them....or you will see I am not all that crafty...but they look good. :thumbsup2 hope you like them....

When I was on the Mexican Riviera Cruise in March on the Wonder, the internet in the Promenade Lounge was fine, but the signal in the stateroom stunk. Pricey of course!

We leave the 16th and it is a 30% chance of rain at MIA. Two days ago it said 60% chance of rain. so.........slight delays in MIA!! Dallas is 20% chance of rain then Vancouver is 40% ............slight delays i guess:cool1::cool1:

No all we got last year was a bag, sport bottles, and rice crispy treats same as this year, this years from the Dream MV

:sad1: That is what it has been for like two years. Sure wish they would have changed it up for Alaska. Flip flop rice crispy treats don't seem to "fit".

I remember how good the gifts were years ago....the first like 6 years or so they did not have the repeat cruisers as they do now so they could afford to give us really cool stuff and a lot of it...the last cool thing I got was the blanket on the first panama canal cruise...after that they went down hill...they were going down hill before that but they decided to give us all a cool blanket...

Rice crispy treats is an insult...sure they don't have to give us anything but they started this and now we all feel entitled to it :lmao: but after all we pay a lot of money to sail with them...we can always save and just cruise RC....

My kiss are older so we will also start adding them into our cruising...but we have been cruising on DCL since Michael was 2 And Branden turning 5....hard to stop...pirate:

Don't panic on the weather forecasts. The 10 day forecasts are indicating 'Showers' or 'Few Showers' with a 30-40% chance for each day. That's a lot different than "raining the whole time".

This reminds me of the posts we always see for WDW where people say the forecasts say rain every day, when they really will only see a shower or two in the afternoon.

Yes, it will rain some in Vancouver/Alaska, but don't get the impression that we'll be drenched for 7 straight days.

I agree...lets hope it is nice...even if it isn't, we will make the best of it!

Don't believe those darn weather.com forecasts, we had sirens going off last night, strong winds and rain and it told me that it was a clear night with no rain...

No panic on the weather and get that if it says 30% chance it will also means that 70% chance it won't....still like 0% better with sunny skies :lmao:

As for Florida...we have a house inDaytona and around 4 everyday a short thunder storm rolls in....so when it says rain we ignore it...unless it shows 60% than we always know it will be more of an all day rain...

As for packing...have not started yet...will be doing all that today...but have my list and have gone through clothing already...I went to the mall yesterday and DH took my younger son shopping the day before and not only did cruise shopping but school shopping as well...over 600 bucks worth ...he will only wear jeans...he refuses to wear anything else but he will look nice...my 17 y/o will be dressed better.

So today...packing, football, chiropractor, son has 2 friends coming over and sleeping, cleaning, eyebrows if can fit it in, and so much more...

Tomorrow...cleaning,bathing dogs, organizing schedule, and way to much stuff...will be up till like midnight at least tonight....but it will all be done with stress and excitement...no anxiety because I take anti anxiety pills :lmao: ahhhh love my little red pills...l:rotfl2:

Will check back later to let you know how it's all going....I feel very disorganized right now because I am but won't be by the time tomorrow is over.

Robin/Tisza,

In chat a couple weeks ago you had talked about wanting to do a second meet later in the week....is that still in the works?

observations and questions:

* I know that one of our excursions Forest Island Adventure ---some indication that there is some rain that falls in the neighborhood. ;)

Q: I'm a gin man! Are the martini tastings strictly a vodka experience? Sometimes I feel that we gin drinkers are being unfairly prejudiced! :confused3 whats up with that?

Federal Expressed our FE stuff to Vancouver. If they dont get there, the FE group will get a share of a claim against Fedex. :upsidedow

:woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo::woohoo:
