Alaska ~ 8/13/12 ~ Midnight Sun Mouseketeers!

Welcome to our cruise!

Is everyone getting excited???

I booked our airfare friday from IAD to Seattle and also booked our hotel so it's all done now. Now we have to wait until it gets closer.

We've been talking with DD (9) as to what excursions she might want to do and her request is to "see bears and any other animals but especially bears"! LOL

The Midnight Sun Mouseketeers sail to Alaska in 24 weeks!

We went on the Wonder last year from Vancouver to Alaska. It was a very relaxing time with beautiful scenery. We had lovely weather (sun and no rain although it was a little bit cold on a couple of days). Take a nice thick sweater. Sunsets were fabulous.

Bronte (who is 11) says the best restaurant experience was Triton's waffle sandwich for breakfast which tasted like snickerdoodles. Because she was 10 at the time but almost 11, she went to the kids clubs and the Edge (tweens). The kids clubs had lots of computers and games, a wall with holes to crawl through, and activities. She liked the Edge better because there were more people her age. My nieces came last time (age 8 & 5) and they loved the kids club. They went there every night and made cookies, t-shirts etc.

We opted for active shore adventures and the ziplines at Bear Creek were really fun. The rock climbing was challenging but fun. Fishing was relaxing and we saw lots of whales.

The ports are pretty much westcoast and we saw lots and lots of seals and whales. The seals were swimming up the salmon ladders and having a feast. There were bears around but I have to admit that I did not spot them. There were plenty of eagles at Ketichan. We will probably do active shore adventures again. People we met enjoyed the snorkel adventure and the other ziplines.

I don't know what other information people want so please ask questions if you have any.

Hi all,

This will be our first Disney cruise, first time to Alaska, and this is my first time on the Disney discussion board!!!! Really looking forward to the August 13th cruise. My husband and I will be traveling with our two sons (ages 9 and 7), my parents, and my sister and her two daughters (ages 11 and 8).

:) Lisa

Lisa,
My 11 daughter is wondering if your sister's daughter would be interested in emailing a bit before the cruise to be penpals. If she is, let me know and I can send you my email details to connect them.
Andrea

I thought it would be fun to play Question of the Week to get everyone chatting!

Here we go....

Who is your favorite Disney Character?

Who's my favorite???

I would have to say Ariel is my favorite Disney character other than Mickey of course.

Hello,
(Bronte would also be interested in penpals if any kids around the same age would like to get in touch prior to the cruise).

Hi Andrea,

My daughter Kate is 12 now and will be 13 at cruise time. We have excursion interests that seem similar to yours. We are planning on zip lines and dog sledding and are also considering crab fishing.

If Bronte has not yet found a cruise penpal, Kate says she would be interested in that. Kate is planning on spending time at the tween club onboard and it would be nice for her to already know someone when she gets there! Just let us know and we can PM you with her info. Thanks!

Hi "Jack'sGirl5",
Bronte would definitely be interested in being a penpal with Kate. I need to post some more messages to get the right permission to receive PM. I will work on that right now.

Daisy Duck.
PS -- the characters have some rather nice evening dresses for their cruise -- Mini and Daisy in particular.

Hi all,
I am trying build up my post limit so that I can put up some cruise pictures from last year and accept PM. Please excuse the multiple messages I am making.
Andrea

For me, the shopping in Alaska is not what the ports were about but that said we did find a delightful handmade soap shop in Juneau. Great for presents and great for personal soap treats if you like that sort of thing. I cannot sent the link yet but the shop is called Glacier Smoothie the Amazing Silt Soap and if you google it you can see the products.

There are also a couple of handmade fudge/chocolate specialty shops which provide a nice place for a snack (which you don't need because the cruise food is plentiful anyway) -- but who can resist.

Another beautiful craft spotted in Alaska last year was the knitting done with Quivit musk ox yarn. It is so soft and fine. The sweaters and hats are pricey but the shop is nice to visit for a look. I think the shop was in Skagway.

Last post to get me to 10 -- phew! -- is anyone planning a Palo evening this year?

:cheer2: Yea! You made your 10th post! It was cool that we all got to benefit with some of your cruise details and those lovely pics.

I am going to try to PM you with Kate's email and our address for Bronte -- be patient with me, it will be my first PM.

Thanks!
Liz

Hi guys,

It's been a little while since I posted, and I started really getting into cruise mode. I've been researching port adventures, looking at food porn (let me know if you need a link to the dcl food picture of the day thread), and reading my Passporter DCL book. We are all paid up, and May will be here very soon. I'm wondering if you can call and request a particular dining rotation. I would love to have AP on my last night, as that is where breakfast will be on the morning we depart. Last cruise, we ate at Triton's, which is right by the lobby, hense the exit to the ship. We had such a hard time getting through all the waiting people from the earlier seating, and don't want to have to struggle with that again.

So, has anyone ever put in a request for dinner rotation?

We are definately booking Palo for both brunch and dinner. We did only brunch our first cruise, and it was amazing. Can't wait to do both!

I also think I have my 3 excursions picked out. Do you? What are you planning?

We are around 160 days out, and I still can't wait!! :)
