Alamo's $100 a week computer glitch on 15 pass Vans

I was online that last night using some different codes--from my membership club, I swear I must have been losing my mind bc @ one point I thought that I saw a Trailblazer for $30 more than a fullsize! But when I went back to it, it wss the same old high price! Whatever-- I think that it may sometimes be like with airlines the prices change all the time.

You probably weren't seeing things. I had one booked with National using their $30. coupon and my Costco code and it was $30 more than a full size, $40 more than a midsize. I could have taken a chance on the Emerald Aisle but didn't dare to cause we needed something bigger for luggage. I canceled it anyway and rented a mini van through Thrifty. There was no comparison in the price. National was about $400. higher. :scared1:

I just got back last Saturday. I was one of the lucky ducks to grab this deal. I had absolutely no problems at all. I used the kiosk and had no issues at the check in gate or when returning it. OP - I wouldn't worry about your reservation. Things are just fine. It cost me $55 to fill up the tank and I used about 3/4 of a tank. We used the van much more than we originally anticipated including a return trip to MCO to pick my sister's family up when their flight was delayed by several hours.
 
i am so glad to hear that you had no problem. We are leaving in 6 days and have 2 vans rented and i was worried :yay:
 
Everything sounds like it is working great. I had made a ressie with Dollar as a backup but now that we have two good reports I will cancel it. Thanks for the updates.
 

Actually we just picked up our car on thursday..we did not need the van so i basically called up and asked if i would be doing them a favor by switching to another car type so they could have the vans available for those that need them. The manager was very nice and asked what kind of car i would like..when i asked if a convertible was do able i was put on hold. A few minutes later he came back and told me it was all set. Be careful though when my sister picked it up thurs. night she was told she was being offered a upgrade to a mustang conv and then walked away with a bill of close to 500.00. I knew i booked this rate for 169.91 for a 8 day rental. When i sent her back the employee told her it was because she took the upgrade..told him he could keep his upgrade and took a sebring convertible instead...we will be joining them tomorrow morning...cant wait!
 
We just returned tonight and all went well for us too. Actually my price was a little cheaper than quoted. My reservation was for $99 for a 7 1/2 day rental after all taxes and fees and my print out today was for $94. Pretty cheap. It cost us $40 to top off our tank before heading to the airport from the BWV. Like a previous poster, we too talked to the manager about downgrading and they checked the inventory, but there were no minivans available on our arrival day and we needed a minivan.
 
well i did not have such a easy time with mine. They told me it was a comercial vehical and my insurance would not cover it so i had to take there insurance at around 180. SO my price would have been around 350. it was cheaper to rent a full size car but it still cost me 100 dollars more then my original price and i am not happy

That's terrible. We spoke to a manager while in line and he said to use the kiosk (did you use the kiosk?). The manager knew exactly what we were talking about when we mentioned the van. We where on side A of the terminal. Sorry it didn't work smoothly for you.
 
It was likely true that your insurance would not have covered it. A CC CDW would not have covered it. You could still turn down the companies CDW but you would have been on the hook if there was damage to the vehicle.

Probably true. People should always verify rental coverage on their personal policies and credit card. Those coverages frequently exclude anything larger then a mini-van.
 
Just returned from our trip. We had booked the 15 passenger van, but Alamos called us soon after week booked it and asked us to downgrade to an 8 passenger van. We agreed although we were concerned about fitting all 8 of us and our luggage in the van. We didn't have any problems with our reservation. Alamo checked us in and honored the original price. We had at least 6 8 passenger vans to pick from - they were all in an aisle marked "8 passenger vans." The Sienna we picked drove great and had plenty of space for all of us and our 6 suitcases. The only hiccup in the whole process was the lack of any gas stations near the airport. Rather than miss our flight to search for a gas station, we ended up returning the van with 1/4 tank and paying the $50 to refuel it (which probably was only $20 more than I would have paid at a gas station).
 
Our rental did not go so easy. First it would not let me use the kiosk, Then they had to redo the reservation.. We recieved the price quoted but it took a little longer in line. I told my wife to go pick out a van and I would be there as soon as I could.
