Is there a charge to cancel a reservation from Alamo?

Basically, I have booked a car for Friday, August. 20th and was wondering if I need to cancel it, will I get charge a cancellation fee? Also, how many days to I have to give them notice about cancellation?

usually with car rentals reservation, there is no fee to cancel

you can cancel even on the day of reservation

just make sure you keep a record of your cancellation
 
I'm not aware of any cancellation fees with Alamo, some other agencies have them on specialty vehicles (ie. Minivans, large SUVs, etc.), but even those are few and far between.
 
Nope, I just canceled 4!!!! I wasn't sure if they were actually going through because they didn't ask for information and I had 4 confirmations in my email box. I canceled with no problem.

I cancel Alamo reservations all the time. I keep checking for better deals and when I find one I cancel the older one. Never have I had to pay anything. I also sometimes book multiple reservations for same days different pick-up times or locations and when I finalize my plans I just cancel the ones I don't need. Of course as soon as you know you need to cancel it's best to do it then. I once had a long compounded delay and I called them to let them know that I would be picking the car up several hours later than the originally scheduled pick up and had no trouble upon arrival.
 
There's no cancellation fee unless you prepaid or (possibly) provided credit card information... but it's really, really, really, really, really considerate to cancel ANY reservation as soon as you know you're not going to use it. I'm surprised at least one person in this thread didn't point that out ;).

Oh, but if you got the car through Priceline's Name Your Own Price site or through Hotwire, there's no refund.
