Has anyone rented from them lately? I booked a suv for end of august but it doesn;t say if they have a charge for an additional driver all the other ones say $10 a day. But alamo says there may be a charge. So i called and they said no charge. Has anyone had this experience lately? Thanks

Hmmmm. I rented a SUV with Alamo for September. They didn't show a charge for an additional driver so I called them to verify there wasn't a fee. They told me that there would be a fee so I left the ressie as is. I don't want to spend another $100 to have hubby drive. That's just crazy. I'm hoping to find a code that would allow an additional driver for free but haven't had any luck lately.

It all depends on what code you are using...some include and extra driver, some don't. When you click a car to see the total pricing, it will list out what is included...suchs as unlimited miles, guaranteed base rate, (1) extra driver, etc. Ours is a $35 difference between the Amex code (one driver) and Costco code (2 drivers) It is not that important to us that we both drive, so we are taking the cheaper rate!!! :thumbsup2 If you need an extra driver, just play around with codes til you get one. Costco includes it, I think there is a Walmart code that includes it too.

Ones I know include extra driver at no extra charge are:
Walmart code off mousesavers, costco, sams club. These are ones I've personally used.

I just booked an SUV with Alamo yesterday using the walmart code 430710 which includes extra driver, and used $20 off weekly rate coupon. also listed on Mousesaver site.pirate:

I Use the BJ's discount code and coupon ( found on their web site ) for a discount plus $25 off

I too use the WM code #430170 for the free additional driver and $25 coupon from Entertainment book. So far, that's the best rate I've gotten. $256 for std. SUV for 11 days.

Could you please tell me when the Entertainment Book coupons expire? I'm considering getting one just for this coupon, but we will not be going until the beginning of November and I know that the books usually expire sometime around then.

That coupon for $25 is good thru June/2008.It's only good on a cnvertable, minivan or sport utility for a minimum of a 3 day rental.
If you want my coupon just let me know and I'll mail it to you.
In fact I have a whole Entertainment Book of coupons for Orlando if you need anything else.

Like debden said, the Alamo ones are good until June 30, 2008, it's the bulk of the coupons, for your local area, that expire on Nov. 1st. Most of the national ones are good for alot longer. Besides the $25 off there are a few more. For example, up to $20 off for compact, or larger; One free day on compact or larger for min 5 days; Free upgrade on compact thru midsize; and $50 off a monthly rental. They also give you multiples of most of them. (3 of the $25 one).

For me, personally, I've been using Alamo since Sept. 2004, and the best price I can get, is using the Entertainment coupon, and the WM code for free driver. If you have AmEx card, you can get it for a little cheaper than using the Entertainment coupon. Even Sam's and BJ's are more expensive than the Entertainment code. What I do is go thru all the Hot Deals, apply coupons, etc. and see which rate is best. Then I keep checking since Alamo does drop their prices, periodically, and you can sometimes get a better price, even up to 2 days before pickup. On one trip I rebooked a few days before we left and saved money and then a few hours I checked again and the rates had dropped further! :goodvibes

I really like using Alamo, the best part is being able to pick your own vehicle. Very Cool! :cool1:

Thank You very much for the information and for the offer! I tried to PM you with my information, but it wouldn't let me. Please PM me with your email.

Thanks,

Dan

Does anyone know if the additional driver has to be your spouse? Also, can you still bypass the counter if you have an additional driver?

Thanks!

I don't know about bypassing the counter since we have to go to the counter with our coupon, however, your additional driver can be anyone. For me, it's either been my mom, or my sister.
