Hi all! I just wanted to know if anyone who has rented from Alamo has had a similar experience.

My brother got back from WDW 2 weeks ago, spent a week there and had rented from Alamo. Uneventful, returned the car at the airport. Yesterday he got a letter from Alamo stating they want $400 from him as the car was involved in an accident (not specified). My brother said that when he returned the car, they checked him and cleared it, never got into an accident while he had it. Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks.
Vicky

Yup, happened to me. Luckily, I had a copy of the rental car agreement that listed the damage to the car, signed by the attendant before I took their car off their rental car lot. Otherwise, it was very clear to me that they were willing to go to the mat with me over this damage which clearly was due to something that occurred prior to me taking the car. I'm sure glad I don't trust Alamo.

It is important to always take time to inspect the car thoroughly and document ANY damage (including minor scratches). Get the damage documented and signed by a company rep before you drive off the lot. In addition, I also take pictures of the car before I leave now.

I also started to take PICS just for indentification (l tag) but then just thought why not take them for damage as well and now thats what I do.

Kind of strange...I rented a intermediate from National and someone backed into the front corner panel of it (G6 with 100 miles) at AK parking lot. I returned it, expecting a huge hassel with insurance companies, etc, but the lot attendent that checked it back in, didn't notice the damage, and didn't say a word!!

Big difference between National and Alamo, even though they're the same company now.

Thanks all. He called me and said that after he explained, they closed it. So hopefully that's all there is. I have never had an experience with them, always rented with national or dollar when I'm down there.
