Alamo Car Switch

I booked a mid-size 4 door car; however today I went back to view the ressie and it now says midsize 2 door, G5. The confirm in my emails says 4 doors and one of the reasons I booked a mid size is to be guaranteed 4 doors...anyone else notice this..

The car seems nice but it won't work with the little one and car seats.

Thanks

Remember, at Alamo, all cars are priced, booked and controlled by car category, not by car make or model. Vehicle features, seating and luggage capacities are not guaranteed and are subject to manufacturer make and model. The indicated capacities should be used as a general guideline only.

Not a switch, a 4 door is not guaranteed.

With Alamo you can just walk out to the mid-size car aisle and pick the car you want out of the row.

Alamo appears to have adjusted their cars in the car classes. The Standard Class in the past (which you could only see if you tried to do a upgrade from mid size), showed a Monte Carlo or similar. Standard (which is now an option) now shows a Malibu or similar.

I believe the mid size in the past was a four door G6 or similar, so this being changed to a G5 is indeed a switch.

Our past confirmation indicate:
Vehicle Type: Midsize - 4-Door/Automatic/Air - Pontiac G6 Or Similar

This would mean a 4 door is a guarantee. Only the specific car model would vary.

I noticed the same thing, but since my email says 4 door I would think they would have to honor that. The email is what I have printed out for my confirmation and will be using that at the window.
I hope they honor it. :confused3

It appears National has done the same thing! That Thrify and Dollar ressie is looking better and better!

Same thing has happened to us...a G6 and a G5 are not similiar one is clearly larger than the other and the larger car is the one that you reserved and the one that your confirmation e-mail contains.

I'm going to bring my confirmation e-mail with me as we really do prefer to have the bigger car.

If they are going to give me a 2 door than I might as well save the money and get a compact. I have a feeling even if they have a mix of cars g5 and g6, eveyone will be taking the g6 and leaving the g5 behind. I tried to requote and there is a 50 dollar jump to the next class...

Why would you assume that 'everyone' will take the larger car? I use National and always look for the smaller vehicles. Not everyone flying into MCO is there for a holiday with their family, and not everyone wants the larger cars.

I have gladly taken Beetles and two door Volvos from the National aisles in the past.

Judging from this thread and others, most people reserving a midsize prefer a four door. When I booked it made no mention of 2 doors. Why book a midsize and pay for it if you want a smaller car which cost less...

But this site hardly represents the greater population renting cars at MCO. Nor does it represent the general population of America.

I know that it is easy to assume that people going to MCO are going on family holiday to Disney, but there are many travellers going for business, or to visit family, or for conventions. They don't always want or need four door cars with large trunk space.

I am one of those people, and I do purposely look for and/or ask for the smaller cars. Just because a car has two doors or is smaller, doesn't mean that it rents for less. The cars that I listed, and others like the Toyota Solara rent for the same or higher cost.

Looks like the rental agencies are using the car classification being used by the lower priced off site agencies. Customers are unwilling to pay a profitable price for car rentals. They're certainly not willing to pay a premium price.

A 4 door car was never guaranteed. Rental agencies are changing the written information to remove uncertainty as to what's guaranteed. I reserve a larger car category when I need a larger trunk or a back seat that can be used by an adult. A 2 door car wouldn't be the end of the world.

I have no problem. I suspect customers with existing reservations will be accommodated. Customers that need to change their reservation may be stuck with the new car classification.

I don't understand all the car classes. I'll either book one of the two cheapest categories to save a few dollars or go to a full sized car if I need a big trunk. Differences between one car model vs another is greater then the guaranteed difference between a compact and mid sized car.

My ressie says 2 or 4 door for the compact I reserved. I plan on sweetly asking for the 4 door if its a no go then we shall all cram into a 2 door. I have never rented anything other then compact class but also have never gotten a 2 door car. My guess is they don't stock a lot of them and business travelers likely take those they do have.

Like other posters said, the 2 vs 4 doors has no impact on the size of the car. And they do have some 2 door. A 2 door coupe Cobalt like I got once seats as many people as the 4 door sedan. It might make it harder to get into the backseat, that's all, but trust me, 3 adults sitting in the back will still be a tight fit regardless of how many doors! I was actually surprised to get a 2 door, but it was the "sport" version with leather and all, nice!

I only need a compact, but I booked a mid-size for a 3 day rental at CCC because my Entertainment coupon code NF3713HWM is valid for one free weekend day for a mid-size or larger. We got a good rate of $83.79 total for Labor Day Weekend.
My online reservation now says 2 door, my original says 4 door.
Either will work for two old folks picking up at the Car Car Center...

Okay, I just checked my (non-Orlando) National reservation. I modified it 8/19, and under My Car, my confirmation e-mail shows

Vehicle Type: Midsize - 4-Door/Automatic/Air - Pontiac G6 Or Similar

After reading this and the other thread, I checked online. My car is now
Midsize
2 or 4-Door/Automatic/Air
Pontiac G5
or similar

We usually travel with 2 adults and DD6, but this year there was a chance one of my teens might go. We always book full size, for the big luggage and the ease of helping DD6 out of the back seat...but because of the rate jumps we had started with a mid size from Dollar. The full size price Alamo recently dropped to a few $ less than would pay with Dollar. I grabbed it. It was only about 30 less for a midsize at Alamo. Works out to about 2.73/day for the convenience. Definetly worth it to us.

I know this post started with Alamo but I just checked my National rental again, an now a Mid Size SUV is cheaper than the newly changed to G5 they switched me to. Things are getting nutzy. :-)
