Alamo aisles... full size cars?

It is a touch early to be looking for bargains for May. Alamo and National allow you to select your own car from the appropriate rows. IE: full size, go to the full size row and select the car of your choice.
If you want a minivan, when you reserve, make sure you reserve a mini van. Most of the full size cars accomodate 5 passengers, so, keep that in mind, you might not need a mini van.
Keep looking at mousesavers.com for codes. Join the Alamo Insiders program.

Thanks for your help. That is very nice of you. I will join Alamo Insiders and keep a watch.

Thanks again!

wow!! after reading this thread I checked alamo's rates and I got the best rate for 1 week!! 35 dollars less than other companies!!

I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd comment here. I always rent from Alamo or National.

Is is necessary to ask an attendant in the garage if you can take a minivan or premium car if it is parked in the standard/full size row before driving to the booth to check out? I've often seen a 'better' car but hesitate to take it since it is not what I reserved. How do they know if someone didn't just walk over to the 'better' aisle and took the wrong size car!

After reading this thread, I'm definitely reserving a standard size thru Alamo for December in hopes of getting a nice surprise in the garage :)

Nope, not necessary to ask. The exit agents know what is being put where. But, if it makes you more comfortable to ask, go for it. Keep in mind, sometimes the "better" cars abut the "lesser" cars, be mindful of the signs overhead (no one seems to read those). IE: B side, national car. Full size abuts midsize, there are signs and a traffic cone or pole to separate them, but, that does not always work.

Its been 4 yrs since I rented from Alamo at MCO. Let me see if I get this correct: if I reserve a standard size car, I can pick from the full size row. And theres a chance that I might even get a mini van if it is out there on the full size row. Trying to get info in order for May 2013 vacation to Disney. By the way, thanks "gmeh1" for all your info!!! Best way to get straight from a reliable source.

Yes, you can select from the full size area if you have booked a standard car. If there is a mini van in the full size section, yes, you can take it at the full size price.
You are most welcome, I like to help when I can. Happy planning!!

Very interesting. I need a minivan (4 kids in car seats), so I can't take a chance on a full size (or standard) reservation and then there not be a minivan in the full size row. However, is there a reason I could not make two reservations (one full size/standard, one minivan), and then walk out to the garage, look at what's in the row, then cancel the one I don't need from my phone before picking up the vehicle?

mek17, I cannot answer that question. I like my job. :)

What if you see a couple vans in the full aisle in the garage, go back inside, get in line at the Alamo counter, keep your standard reservation, & go back to the garage, only to find the vans have already been taken? Not sure what the odds of this happening are, but if nothing smaller than a minivan can accomodate your family, you're probably best just renting that size.

I have rented with Alamo for first time in Aug and got a great rate for an intermediate car. I usually rented with National and have emerald aisle. It sounds like from these past few posts that Alamo has a emerald aisle of their own - correct? If so, do I need to sign up for it, or is this how they operate for every rental?

What the last few posts are referring to is the fact that you can choose your own car from the car class you reserved. That is how they operate for all Alamo rentals at MCO. However, sometimes there are cars in the aisle that are "better" than the class you reserved, i.e., minivans or SUVs in the full-size car aisle. You can't count on this being the case, though.

No, Alamo does not have anything like an Emerald Aisle. You select the car yourself from the appropriate area. IE: rent a full size car and select from the full size area. In your case, you will select from the midsize/intermediate area. They are clearly marked and the greeter will direct you.

Not necessarily "better", but, definitely a "free upgrade". And, lately, that has not been happening. Very busy times here.
