It really does seem that Disney is trying to turn Hollywood Land -- a land that had so much potential, and in recent years has been a nice complement/'neighbor' to Buena Vista Street -- into a Frozen land. What's next? Tower of Frozen Terror?
It's not even that I think the Frozen musical would be bad. I'm sure it will be entertaining. The problem is that I am already tired of Frozen. I was tired of Frozen one year ago, so you can imagine how I feel one year later. When I feel that something has reached its oversaturation point, I am turned off from wanting to see it. I won't have any desire to see the show when it debuts, if all of this Frozen business keeps up at this level.
There is a new "Toy Story" movie coming out in 2017. "Finding Dory" is coming. I would rather see either of those gain an increased presence in the parks (inserting Nemo into the Subs was kind of silly) over the next year or two than to see one more Frozen thing pop up.
Let's run down the list of what we have:
-- The sing-along in HL.
-- The meet and greet in HL.
-- Olaf's Snow Fest, which is coming back at some point in the near future (not sure exactly when).
-- Freeze the Night, which may or may not be back.
-- Frozen in the Storybook Land Canal Boat ride (actually, that is one of the places where I think it works best).
-- The Frozen show at the Royal Theater in FL.
-- Frozen floats in assorted parades.
-- The Anna & Elsa boutique in Downtown Disney.
-- Olaf's Frozen Ice Rink in DTD (which I'm sure will be back for the holiday season).
-- Frozen segments and themes in fireworks and World of Color.
Did I leave anything out?
And now... this show coming to the Hyperion. If anyone thinks that there is not enough Frozen at
Disneyland Resort, then they haven't been paying attention. There is plenty of it all around!
I went into Target to get some headphones earlier this year -- and there was an Olaf knick knack in the headphone section!
I was in the 99 Cents Only store yesterday, and over the loud speaker someone came on to tell us about having a Frozen-themed party, and that certain supplies could be found in the store (no one seemed to care).
There is more than enough Frozen everywhere. It has definitely reached the point of oversaturation.
Most of the comments under the Parks Blog and on the Parks Blog Facebook page are not in favor of this new musical. There was even a CM from DLR who spoke up and wrote about how she is not thrilled with this news.
