We moved to AL to be near my father when he was diagnoised with stage 4 cancer. He had just bought a house, and found out about the cancer a week or so after he closed. It was also my ds bday when he found out. I was a single mom for so long, my father was my ds father figure. So this hit him hard. My fiance at the time agreed to move with us up to AL. So w/in two weeks we quit our jobs, packed up what we needed from the house and moved into the new house. We planned a double wedding (so my dad could give me and my sis away) for August 18 07. We went back to FL to seel our house a few months later.

(we had a Disney wedding planned for November...but were not sure dad would make it that long according to the dr's...he was in the hospital during that time). I'm just glad dad got to give me away....I will always treasure that!

We have grown to love AL (much different than we had thought it would be). the Chelsea area is beautiful and peaceful!! (on trips back to sell our house in FL...I couldn't believe how crowded and busy everything was!!) We had lived 15 mins from the beaches and 90 minutes from Disney...that is the only thing I miss.

Everyone here was so nice to our family, and prayed for Dad all the time. Dad passed away one year later...July 18 08. He was very happy knowing his family was here in AL to live and that we would stay here to take care of mom.

We just bought DVC at BLT Jan 21st...and are very excited about it!!! Living so close to Disney all my life, I am used to going to Disney anytime I wanted to. At least with DVC, we'll be able to go to Disney once or twice a year!!

I mentioned to DH that lots of you drive to WDW, and he was not too thrilled with the idea...LOL. He did agree that on longer trips, we would drive (to save money on plane tickets) but on our Dec/Jan trips that are only 3 or 4 days we would fly!

I'm glad to see so many people from Al as DVC members! I was wearing my AKL shirt the other day at Panaera Bread and saw a couple pointing to my shirt. I wonder if they are DVC ownders??

My kids have never been to Universal Studios.

Also, who let the Auburn fan in here. :lmao:

SimbaNoodle just became one of my favorite neighbors!

Roll Tide, Roll!

MickApp, you got a lot of activity started on here, all of a sudden, after a long hiatus.

I'm Jerry. My wife is Sandra. I'm a retired federal probation officer who worked 15 years in the Northern District of Alabama, and then 16 years in the Southern District. We moved down here from Hoover in 1990.

Our youngest boy's first trip to WDW was at about 9 months of age, and we took the boys regularly, until they started going without us, with various ball teams or singing groups. Sandra and I didn't go much for several years. Then, in December 07, we took the whole family and stayed in 3 studios at ASMovies. Had a great time, but it was really crowded! Bought the first SSR contract a few months later, and a second in July. We took our oldest grandson, for his fourth birthday, in April, while the first contract was pending, and stayed at Pop. Sandra and I went in November and stayed for a weekend at BC, then 3 nights at OKW. Had a great time.

We usually leave around 7, to drive down from Fairhope. 7 hours, +/-. We'll be taking our grandson (GS #2) down for his 5th birthday, just after school gets out (wife teaches). The whole family is thrilled with the DVC purchase:

We have a grand villa booked at SSR for a week, beginning the weekend after Thanksgiving.

I am sure I posted on this thread at the beginning somewhere. I am from Dothan AL. We live in MD though. I am huge TIDE FAN I watch their games every year. My parents still live in Dothan and my dh's family lives in Pensacola. Man do I ever miss SOUTHERN COOKING AND SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY. No one up here has ever heard of a "purple hull pea":rotfl: Let alone a "Waffle House":rotfl2:

We became members Jan. 31st 2007 and added on Aug. 2008. We LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE DVC. It is fun to read this thread and see where everyone is from. We have a dd 18, ds 15 and our youngest ds is 10. They are quite the Disney Experts ......dd has been 15 times. :scared1: We are SSR and AKV owners. We have stayed at SSR three times, BWV once, OKW two times and BCV once. However we are staying at BCV and AKV this summer. Can't wait. We loved BCV last summer. IT is hard for me to decide which resort is my fave. I think it depends on what time of year we go. I love them all. Sure there are some at the top of the list, but I am not disappointed staying at any DVC resort.

Hey, I know that Whataburger!!!! We always pass through Crestview on our way to Destin. I keep hoping a Whataburger will make it up to Huntsville, but they've only made it so far as Prattville I think, it's somewhere on I-65, I know that much.:lmao:

LOVE LOVE LOVE Whataburger. MY dh is from Pensacola...we always hit that atleast once when we are there. YUMMY.

We will be at that Whataburger in one week. 7 days till our 4 nights at Beach Club Villas. :cool1:

I am so thrilled to see you guys on the Alabama thread!

Grandbuddy - You also have a beautiful family. I must commend you on your wardrobe choices. Its good to see you here. Please tell us all about your recent DVC adventures, and come back and tell us about your trip in the GV.

I intentionally waited a little while to pull the thread up. I didn't want to say bump! bump! bump!

As for all of you newbies, I am so excited to hear from you guys. I think I got everybody added. If I skip over somebody, please, please let me know.

OK, I'm just going to throw this out there.

Is anybody up for a DIS-DVC meet???

:jumping1: party::rockband: :charac2: party: :jumping1: :drinking1

I'm thinkin' maybe around B'ham. Is that too far for you gulf coasters? Montgomery is a little far for Huntspatch and the Shoals. :car:

Where? When? What time?

Please discuss!

I can't wait to meet you all.

Quite a crew you've got there! When my kids get a little older and have their own families, I foresee an add-on so we can take everyone. We went this past June in a 2 bdr and took my son's fiance with us for the first time and had a great time.

I also look forward to more trips with just DW and me, probably studio stays so we can maximize our time there. We did a short three nighter in February 08 just the two of us. We stayed at VWL and really had a great time time. We took our time strolling around smelling the roses. Owning DVC has made our trips as a whole much more laidback. We know we are coming back and we don't have to try to do everything.

That sounds great!

IF we get a better response, does Mid-May sound good?? Should it be later for planning purposes??

BUMP!!

BUMP!!

Maybe a little bit later for planning purposes. I know we'll be gone from May 21-June 6 at Disney (disney cruise and SSR). But if mid may works for others, we could make it work! We'll see what the responses are!!:goodvibes

I'd love to meet as long as yall don't wear too much red.........I can't take it  lol

My favorite Disney apparel is dark blue.

The galleria has a Disney store, so we could meet close to there. That is not at all necessary to me. We could also meet at Bass Pro Shop. Dh and I really love how it looks like the Wilderness lodge. The one in Prattville has a great restaurant.

I'd love to hear other suggestions. Maybe at a Whataburger? ;)

We'll be in BHM in April to see Wicked. Fabulous show if anyone is interested!

OK, I've never eaten at a Whataburger. What's good there?

The burgers are the best. I haven't found a bad Whataburger location yet.

Either Bass Pro Shop or Whataburger might be good. Like I need an excuse to go to either one of those.
