Al Lutz June 16 Update - Nightastic Crowds

That was a great update! Especially thought provoking was the idea that if this week is nuts because of updates to old shows, how much more crazy will it be when the World of Color opens up!?

We usually go at the end of July but are going at the end of June this year to go during DH's bday. I think next year we will makes sure to go end of July or start of Aug. Sounds like it will be better crowd wise especially with the new water show.

Thanks Hydro Guy, I always appreciate you keeping us updated with updates!

Can't wait to try the larger PP boats and check out the other FL rides when complete.
Interesting info about the crowd patterns, too. I guess us AP'ers are causing quite the havoc.

So can we assume next week will be better crowd wise? I am going Mon Tues and dont' want to face the crowd hell?

You will be there when some of the AP holders are blocked out so they will not be there. However, part of the reason they are blocked out is that it's peak season. In all seriousness, and I know how hard it is to do this, don't worry about the crowds. Seriously.

Unless you are going to change your trip, you are heading to Disneyland! yay! Will it be crowded? Yeah. It's summer. It's Disneyland. The trick is to plan accordingly.

Eat at "off" times.
Use the FP system if going on lots of attractions is important.
Bring thiings to do while you save spots for parades, Fantasmic, and fireworks.

You are at Disney. Make the most of it and enjoy.

Oh thanks I thought it was MSEP (Main Street Electrical Parade) which I guess wouldn't make sense considering it is no longer on main street

Well, if Al is right, it might be Main Street Electrical Parade again. He said they will be bringing it back to DL, next year I think. I forgot when he said.

I was one of the crazy AP-ers that went yesterday!

Was it crowded? SO CROWDED!
Was it fun? SO FUN!

The new fireworks show was amazing, and yeh, there was complete gridlock in walkways immediately afterwards with nobody being able to move for at least ten minutes- but if I had a time machine, I'd go back and do it again! :goodvibes

For DL's 55th anniversary which would be 2011. :)

Al Lutz posted a typically informative update today here: http://miceage.micechat.com/allutz/al061609a.htm

o Huge Crowds of AP holders come to see new Magical Fireworks and updated Fantasmic
o DEP moving back to DL for 55th anniverary
o CJRR and SLCB to close for 10 weeks this fall for refurb

That's an informative report. Thanks.

I was there Monday and it wasn't much fun. It was unfortunate because we live in the East and like to go out to California to visit family BEFORE the California schools let out and things get crowded. We use our no-expiration Disney World tickets to get in.

Two years ago, our mid-June Disneyland visit was delightful. It was the exact opposite yesterday. I guess it was just really awful luck. Who would believe that the combination of a new night-time show and approaching restrictions on locals tickets would cause record crowds? How could you plan for that? And I thought by reading this board I had the inside scoop. :)

BTW, one thing I didn't like about Disneyland on a crowded day was that there are many more good rides than at Disney World that DON'T have FastPass. So unless you were willing to wait an hour (we weren't) those rides were inaccessible to you.

The overall experience makes me reluctant to ever visit DL again (why bother, we go to DW on free dining every year or so). But maybe I'll do more research the next time and try not to get trapped in a marketing mistake!

That's a good thing, not a bad thing. By not having FP on everything, it keeps lines down. There is a balancing point to reach. FP slows down the standby lines.

Disneyland used to have FP on everything - Pirates, Winnie the Pooh, Star Tours, etc. - and lines were becoming too long. Even on a very busy day (and this Monday and Tuesday were beyond "very busy"), lines on rides like Big Thunder and the Matterhorn are rarely longer than 30 minutes.
