AKV regrets?

We are thinking of buying a smaller resale contract at AKV to use primarily for split stays. Do people who have AKV as their home resorts have any regrets about buying there?

I own at AKV and love staying here. The only potential regret id say I have is we are family of 5 so have to stay 1BR or 2BR. While having the 11Months is nice to guarantee we can stay here when we want it seems 1BR at 7 months would be relatively easy with SAP. Therefore sometimes I think I should have bought either cheaper SAP elsewhere or points at another place we like with 5 to studio where 11 months mattered.

I don't regret my contract here at all. I love our stays at AKV and then I love that we have used those points to stay at many other resorts too.

AKV is awesome. My only “regret” was that it’s easy to get the rooms we want there at 7 months, so another resort might have been better to get some booking priority. I ended up selling that contract and got another resort, but still plan to stay there from time to time.

I like the 2BR there, so when I’m inviting family I’ll book there.

Our AKV 'regret' led us to buy 2 additional contracts!! Never a regret - our favorite resort anyplace, not just WDW. There are a couple room types for DVC members at AKV that need to be booked right at 11 months - it's the only DVC location where you can use points to get Club Level access, which we really enjoy when we can get them, because they go quickly. Also the 'value' room category can be tough to get because they're smaller rooms and take less points. I think a smaller contract and split stays that include AKV would be something you would enjoy for many years to come.

I kind of get that, but we would be booking split stays combined with VGF where we currently own. So the benefit of booking the whole trip at 11 months would be of value to me :)

To add a little more context, our plans are to visit WDW every 3 years and to book 2-bedroom units.

We are pretty much planning to buy at the new VDL/VDH (don't remember which has become the accepted version). So our typical plans will to do a 3-year cycle where we alternate between DL, WDW and a Europe trip.

I don’t really have any regrets at all. I was originally going to buy VGC but got AKV instead. I did end up regretting not getting VGC, but I’m still very happy with AKV. So I decided that I needed to have 2 home resorts. 😀

When we bought AKV was slightly more than SSR (the common SAP DVC). We prefer the ambiance at AKV and really like the central lobby at AKV (both K and J). We stayed at AKV many times as well as used as SAP for other places. I always make an 11 month at AKV and am happy if that's where we wind up.

When I bought SSR, AKL was only a slight surcharge. I still should have bought AKL, because the club level priority would have been valuable to me. Club level 1BR in particular is not impossible to book. Heck, right now it's got some weekends here and there at 8, 9, 10 months. Wish I could book those!!!!

I wouldn't buy AKL to get value, but if you can swing it once or twice, it might be enough to flip the math. I've seen enough random nights here and there, especially 1BR, that have made me wish I had AKL points. 1BR value is also not impossible to book, it's got a lot open right now at 8, 9, 10 months.

Now, AKL has gone way up, and maybe it's tougher to justify the premium. But I think it's a solid choice with a great room selection and priority that matters. If you will use the value/club, even only a couple times, I think it's worth it.

It will be no problem to sell, it's a great resort with a lot going for it with the chart and contract length.

One thing about AKV. I’ve notice some comments about being able to book at 7. If you ever plan on getting value or Kilimanjaro rooms that isn’t happening at 7 months. Those rooms are even harder to get than VGC. Even hard to get at 11 months, but doable if you’re diligent.

I wouldn’t get AKV with the purpose of getting Value rooms. It’s nice if you can get one, but it’s a lottery and you shouldn’t do your math considering it.

I was able to book one of those once and it took me like two weeks trying every day at 8:00 am.

VGC and AKV - that only leaves one more resort of the three you “need” to get.

I don’t think we will regret getting AKV. It’s actually our first resort booked for our welcome home trip in June but we booked that at 7 months with other points. Hopefully we’ll pass ROFR and be “owners” of AKV when we get there in a few months.

This is true. CCV was the only other thing in Orlando that I considered at all (based on photos and video). I kind of want to stay a night there to see how it is… but I’m afraid I will want it.

Nope and we never stay there(hardly at least). We bought cheap with the purpose of booking high end at 7 months. And it almost always works out ;)

One other question... when we pass ROFR (I'm being optimistic) is there any reason at all for us to let our DVC Guide know about our resale purchase?
