The way it worked when I first bought AKV was that when I got the final papers it showed. Total price at regular $1,000 less deposit of $100 less credit of $100, amount due $800 (Numbers invented for ease of math LOL!) I couldn't reduce the intial downpayment by the credit but the total was reduced.
We just purchased at AKV this past month. We got the discount added to our down payment. DVC "gives" you a gift card that gets applied to your down payment. There is a form stating this in the documents you sign. Your guide can explain this as well--ours did a great job going through all the details!
We did an Add On.....so we got the 8 buck discount and paid 500 down payment. The 8 bucks off also went toward the down payment and came off the total owed. THEN we also got a 500 buck Visa to use however we want. OH and can't forget that lovely 100 pt. SSR incentive too.

Yeah this is how it worked for me. Our paperwork lists that we are getting a Visa Gift Card for the $8/pt amount, and then there is another form giving DVC permission to use that card on your behalf toward your downpayment. So it comes in the form of a gift card you will never see. (except as a lower total you owe )
Ok, I am still a little confused. So the money from the gift card comes off the total balance of the new contract after the $500. downpayment. It is not that you paid $420 cash and $80 in gift card to make up your $500. deposit. Do I have this right?

We bought on Friday...we did an add on. We bought 100 points at AKV. I put the 500 down payment on my visa card, we are getting 96 a pt. He said my total cost will be 9600 for those 100 points less the 500 down payment. I will also get a 500 dollar Disney Visa gift type card that they send us in the mail to use however we want. Oh and the 100 developer points. He also said that the REAL DOWN PAYMENT IS 1300 which is 500 from us leaving 800 which Disney pays by giving us the 8 bucks off each point.

At our house,we keep saying we aren't going to do this but we keep talking and talking about it. Not sure how this one will play out but I guess we have to decide soon.

Well my dh was like "NO we don't need more points..we have 300"......I sent him an email at work explaining the current deal.....and a few days later he called me from work and said "LET'S DO IT." I was already at peace with NOT DOING IT. So I called him 3 times asking him if he was SURE so that same day I called my guide and he called back and within a couple of hours my new contract was already on the dvc member site. CRAZY STUFF.

Your points are there but will not show up on the dvc web site. You can call MS and they can see them. My contract shows up for the AKV points.....already. We added on Friday afternoon over the phone and those babies were there when I checked a few hours later. I called the next morning to check on the dev. points and booked my Nov. trip using them.
