AKV - Disney Press Release from 1/25/07

One correction to the info I posted - price for existing members will remain $101 (before incentive) until June 4, not Mar 4, 2007.

Also, min buy-in to qualify for the incentive will be 100 points. Buy 100 points or more and choose between 100 developer points or $8 off per point.

JudyTL, I know that wait is painful, but don't stress too much - short of an extraordinary situation, you will complete your contract in time to add on at the member pricing should you choose. And if your contract is ROFR'ed you can just buy direct immediately.

Will there be a maximum number of points one can buy? Meaning will members be restricted to buying 160 points?
I believe the maximum number of points a member can own at one particular resort is 2000 points. The 160 points you refer to is the minimum number of points a nonmember must purchase when buying directly from Disney.

This is great info Laurie. Thank you and it was so much earlier and succinctly reported than Greenban's post (which came much later and was probably just copied from you (how many infraction points for plagiarism?));)

HBC

HBC I'm sorry you think I plagerized. I gave credit to the posters before me, on my intial thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1338337&referrerid=&highlight=

Saratoga Filly was my first source.

I also did not see the Point charts anywhere else, but if KD had them first, I publically apologize, it was not my intent to steal her thunder or succinity, but to just post under my greenban persona.

I think (hope) that folks here are just kidding around. But I agree with your response -- you made a point to acknowledge what others had already posted, then contacted your source to get more information. I did not see anything in your post that even remotely resembled an attempt to steal anyone's thunder but rather an honest effort to feed our insatiable hunger for information!

I am pretty sure HBC was teasing, as was I. After posting I, too had noticed there were multiple threads with similar info, so it didn't surprise me that you had not seen my post.

I included both a laughing icon and a hearts one for you to emphasize my intentions, but let me be perfectly clear publicly to you and everyone reading this thread:
For the record, I would never accuse you of stealing anything from me, least of all my thunder. (My apologies to Saratoga Filly, too, should anyone think I doubted the originality of that post, either!)

You are correct - I never posted either the point charts or much of the details you so generously shared with the rest of us (so at best you only could have done a partial plagiarization, anyway ;)).

Thanks for responding. I'm probably a little bit over sensitive on the issue of plagerism, as it is very common in my 'real' line of work. (No not morphing DVC Points :rolleyes1 , I mean my real job).

And Laurie, from our private coorespondence, I didn't think you were, but HBC's post really hit me that way, perhaps wrongly.

Thanks to you as well Lisa S.

I just read an article on how 87% of our communication is non-verbal. I think we sometimes tend to forget - or at least overlook - how much that can change the flavor of what we post on a message board (or send via IMs, text messaging, or email).

At any rate, I just wanted my comments and intent to be clear to everyone, not just you, Tony. I have in the past done a bit of cringing when re-reading something I wrote, so I didn't want this to be one of those instances.

Lisa, I type much more slowly than I think, so I was probably typing as you were posting.

Laurie

I found the article again - make that 93% is non-verbal.

There seems to be quite a buzz about AK.

We have stayed at BW/BC/HH/GF(cash)/Contemp(cash)/OKW but have never stayed via cash at AK.

What is it about this resort that has everyone so giddy?

Not only have we never stayed there, we haven't even stopped to peek at it.

Does that mean, non-members are going to be unable to do the initial buy-in? Will there be a maximum number of points one can buy? Meaning will members be restricted to buying 160 points? Wow... I am still waiting to get through ROFR? I am sorry, I did not buy directly from Disney.

Judy
DVC has had a period where only existing members could buy in for several resorts now. They also tend to hold price increases for 6 weeks or so in many cases for current members even after non members can buy in. Thus a new member might pay a higher price per point on the same day compared to a current member.

As far as I know it's the ONLY hotel in American where you walk out on your balcony and see Giraffes', Zebras, Bongos, etc.... That alone made it unique and made me love it.

I have generally come to the decison that Disney Deluxe resorts are a ripoff. Sorry but for less or equal money I can stay in a REAL Resort with nicer beds, better service etc. (Don't believe me, compare the Orlando Ritz Carlton pricing to the GF. I have stayed at both. Hands down service and quality of the accomdation go to the Ritz) The only think Disney has going for it is location. However, I am willing to pay Disney prices for AKL just to have that amazing sight out of my window. (And it's still cheaper then a Safari in Africa and a lot closer to Georgia!):goodvibes

:offtopic: You're missing something then.

Next time you're in the World, spend a day at Animal Kingdom and book a ressie for dinner at Boma's around 7 or so. Leave AK at closing and hop over to the Lodge. It's very close. (So close, I missed a turn and went to the Lodge on my way to AK's parking lot gate my last trip. :lmao: )

Get there before sunset, stroll the lobby, go down to the overlook with the campfire, and out to the Safari overlook stations. There are African guides manning the places to explain all about the animals you'll see. They even have nightvision goggles.

Then back inside for your meal. Boma's is a buffet where you can sample some of the most eclectic varieties of food: Americanized and with African flair.

It's a destination resort, ala Boardwalk/Beach Club but far more exotic. Far too expensive for me to pay to stay, but DVC makes it more than possible. Hence the excitement.

Does anyone know how long it might take for the first incentive program for non-members to kick in based on previous resorts such as SSR? We're looking forward to the prosect of buying in at AKV but $104/point may be a little steep.

I'm not as excited as I thought it would be a few years ago when AKV was just a rumor and DIS boards thought it would never happen for fear of harming animals.

The first time I stayed there was really neat, waking up with a giraffe right outside. But after that time it really wasn't that great. We go to Boma occasionally to eat, even Thanksgiving one year (traditional African Thanksgiving:))and I like the place, I just really don't want to go stay there again. I still get that "feeling" everytime I walk into WL Lobby looking up at the ceiling but in a very similar one at AKL, it just doesn't seem the same. Maybe it's just me. Another part of the reason may be that I'm spoiled by DVC so staying in a "regular" sized (rinky dink) room even though its a deluxe resort, just isn't the same especially on cash and for the amount of cash even with an AP discount. I'd rather pay $100 and stay at POR in the exact same room and then go on the safari to see animals.

I'm going to keep an open mind though because I'm hoping there will be something special when they build the new buildings after redoing the first round and give me a different feel there than I get when checking in on cash. We stay at different resorts for different reasons like BCV during Food and Wine, VWL at Christmas, and OKW when we have 7 of us and want cheap points and being close doesn't matter as much. So proximity doesn't really play in here because AK is a lesser park (don't take that the wrong way) and I don't think they'll be giving elephant rides from the resort to the gate, I'll still have to drive or catch a bus and be way out on the edge of the World. The points I expect to be at least in line with BCV/BWV/VWL if not higher per night.

I hope they do something neat.

Is it just for add ons or can I buy in? I do not currently own DVC.

Starting tomorrow, existing members can add on points at AKV. Not sure when sales start for nonmembers but there are a LOT of threads about AKV on the Mousecellaneous board, so you might find the answer to your question in one of those threads.
