AKV Club Level overbooked

We did. Basically our reservation looked like a cash guest. They cancelled the DVC reservation and manually adjusted our vacation points.

Same thing with me. When I reviewed my statement of room charges on the last day I noticed that I was charged for internet access because I was listed at a "cash" guest. I had to to the CL desk and have them reverse the charges.

I stayed in CL 3 years ago and we got the pool view. We asked if we could move to the 5th floor in order to get a savannah view (and still have lounge access). They said no, only the 6th floor rooms are available for DVC. Luckily a savannah view on the 6th floor did come open the next day and we moved.

I just called MS to book the rest of our trip (going to SSR before AKV), and I asked about the possibility of CL being on a different fl. He hadn't heard anything about it before, and called AK - CL. He then told me that CL told him that we would definately be on the 6th fl. ????

I'm still concerned that neither the AKV or SSR resv's are showing up in our vacation details online. Usually they show up within mins. Something else: the SSR resv # showing up in the points activity section is a different # than MS gave me. I called MS back & they show the resv # that was given to me, and not the one on my activity. So I'm wondering about all the resv's now.

I loved my stay in the concierge at AKL. Mostly booked it for access to the amazing Sunrise Safari. BUT, the views from both pool and savannah are only so-so considering the points used for these rooms. i would GLADLY take a room with a great savannah view and lounge access. (of course, no mobility issues with us)

I cannot understand the design of the lounge there at ALL. A dynamite view of.... the LOBBY! OK, mildly interesting, but to me the lounge should have a killer view of the ANIMALS/Savannah. That would help the guests who have the pool view at least. And the pool view is not even that good of a pool view, there is a roof and things right below you.

I am not sure how you would do it, but to me all the concierge rooms in a hotel should have excellent views..... which is sort of impossible, so at least the lounge itself should be designed to give all concierge guests access to the best view for at least part of their day.

Rant over! Sorry!

Not at AKL, but at VWL.
Booked a studio, MS had over-booked the studios, we were moved to a WL 2-bedroom lakeview hotel room. Lots of walking as we were at the end of the long hall. Invited some family members to come and joint us, made a great time out of our stay.

We've stayed normal club level pre-DVC ownership. Our rooms were on the 4th floor (once pretty far out) so the walk to the lounge was long. 5th floor wouldn't bother me THAT much as long as it was a savannah view room.

Just curious from anyone in the know, could the OP have requested to be moved to another resort with club level availability? (BC, YC, GF etc) I realize they were able to use the lounge, but I'd rather have a room close to the lounge, than to be on a whole different floor. Just wondering.

We did think about that later. We were doing the sunrise safari so didn't want to move and have that messed up, but a few days later we did think about whether we could have moved. Since we had a studio a regular room elsewhere would have been okay, but if we were in a 1br or larger we definitely wouldn't give up our space.

We were told my member satisfaction that all DVC club level rooms are supposed to be on the 6th floor. That is where the 5 2-br units allocated as concierge are located. That is how it was explained to us by both our guide and the executive team.

We actually mentioned what had happened to our guide who was very interested in the outcome as he uses the club level as a selling point AKV. If it doesn't operate the way he explains/understands it, he wanted to know so he wasn't misinforming potential members.

DVC members will only be moved to a non DVC room as a last resort, that is Disney's policy. The resort will tell you that it's a DVC policy and the DVC will say that it is a resort policy. Member Satisfaction will tell you that they are not aware of the policy. :sad2:

I also always thought that the concierge lounge would have a great view of the savannah and was surprised that it overlooked the lobby.

Makes me wonder what the system issue was. A long time ago, I recall a number of members with Aluani reservations being called and moved to the cash side (which may of been for travel at this same time period).

That happened to me. I arrived on 9/27 and was told that MS overbooked. I was assigned a room on the 5th floor a long way away from the lounge. I asked for some type of compensation. I had to wait for the manager but I was offered either a refund in the difference in points (16), or a cash refund of $625 ($125 per night).
I took the $625 and now hope to be "downgraded" again next time:cool1:.
I still had access to the lounge.

This is how I would have handled it too.
$625 dollars is a good comp, glad to hear DVC compensated you fairly.

I agree that the AK CL lounge is poorly placed. It mimicked a house design where there is a small gathering spot in the loft, overlooking the living room. You would think that they would have placed the lounge on the back side, overlooking the savannah.

Has this happened to anyone else? I know people have been moved due to construction and notified in advance.

When we arrived on 9/24 we learned that we did not have a studio on the club level floor, but a savanna view in the 3rd pod on the 5th floor, but still had lounge access. Savanna view was okay but we had really planned on being on the 6th floor right by the lounge and elevators. Bit of a disappointment for my mom who was really looking forward to shorter walks back to the room. AKL and MS assured us this rarely (never) happens but I wonder if any of you have had this experience.

It happened to us on the 20th sept this year, i kicked up a stink and got moved to the 6th floor on the 24th, i sent an e mail to dvc satisfaction team and was reimbersed the difference in pionts between club level and normal dvc room..

I personally have a hard time believing that the computer system over booked the category, otherwise this would be happening on a daily basis. There are only x number of rooms available. I don't think the computer would make x +1 available for one day. I think it was more likely a guest issue. Possibly what Tigger1 suggests.

When
..... I wonder if cash guest might be demanding 6th floor and then DVC guest are put on other floors. I imagine that when DVC came to AKL it upset a lot of cash guest that they were used to 6th floor lounge steps from the door.

There are 3 different reports on this thread, all in September. My bet is there is an issue with the programming because of the lockoffs. If someone reserves a 2 bedroom, that takes away a studio & a 1 bedroom.

That's what I was told when it happened (computer issue). I asked the manager "How can this happen? There are only 10 rooms." She just stared at me without saying a word. Apparently, since she didn't have anything nice to say she said nothing at all.:rotfl:
