I was wondering if anyone has done the sunrise safari, waynama safari, and the wildlife discovery excursion?I am wondering if they are all worth it or would doing all of them be too much? Also can anyone tell me for sure if the waynama safari is still available on Wednesdays and around what time does it begin? One more question please, what savannah views are available for non-smoking concierge rooms on the 5th floor?
Thanks!!!! :)

we did the sunrise safari and it was definitely worthwhile....all four of us enjoyed it....(me, my husband, my daughter who was 19 at the time, and my son who was 17 at the time)...

we did it last year....in fact we stayed at the AKL concierge for the first 3 days of our trip just to be able to do the sunrise safari and it was well worth the effort...

our tour guide was the man who actually designed the animal areas of the AKL as well as one of the main animal areas of the AK.....he was knowledgeable beyond belief (he spent many years at the san diego zoo as well as in africa)....

and the breakfast that followed the tour was wonderful as well.....

definitely something very special and worthwhile..

we didn't do any of the others that you mention...

We're doing the Wanyama Safari when we go in September. I've never been before but I've heard great reviews about it and the Sunrise Safari. The Wanyama Safari is available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. You meet in the concierge lounge at 3:45 I believe it is. Hope this helps. :)

Are you talking about tours that are at the AK resort or from AK park? If at the resort..can anyone sign up and go or do you have to be staying there? :earsgirl:

Hello again, Kata! I've also done the Wildlife Discovery Excursion tour just last May. It's bang for your buck and very interesting as well in its own respect. There is no meal associated with the Wildlife Discovery Excursion. It might be a bit much to do all 3 safari's in one vacation unless you plan to stay a while. If I had to choose between Sunset and Wildlife Excursion I'd have to say Sunset right now. I've not done Sunrise, but I bet that may be the best bang for your buck since it does include a tasty breakfast. The Wildlife Discovery Excursion and Sunrise both take place in the Kilamajaro Safari. You ride in the same vehicles used in the KS ride itself on Sunrise, but you are in a mini-bus safari vehicle (Air conditioned) for Wildlife Discovery. For Sunrise, you are the only ones on the road while during Wildlife Discovery the Safari ride is operating simulatneously during your excursion. Sunset takes place at AK and you'll learn about the animals at the lodge. All three of these safaris are unique. It depends on the experience you are looking to have to be able to choose between them. I would gravitate to one of the safaris offered exclusively to AKL concierge guests, but that's just my opinion. I know decisions like this are tough. Let us know what you decide to do.

I would e-mail AKL IPO to get the dates. I really can't remember what day(s) Sunset is offered on, but I believe you need to be there around 4:30-4:45 for sunset. I would request the Arusha Rock view on the 5th floor, Zebra trail. You'll be front and center on the main savannah. I was lucky enough to be right next to the VP Suite last year and LOVED it. I believe all the rooms are non-smoking on the 5th floor, but I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong on that.

Thanks everyone(esp you VAgal 76) for the great responses once again I think I will go with both the safaris because I was planning on eating at Jiko any way and I was already planning on doing sunrise safari anyway,I am only there for 2 nights so I think that will be plenty.I did have my AAA TA request the 5th floor Arusha savannah non smoking but for some reason I thought it wasn't listed somewhere when I read what views were available for conceirge rooms so again thanks for being such a great source of information it is greatly.appreciated!!!! :wave2:
