We've never stayed at AKL before and are arriving on July 5th for a week. We're excited and have a Deluxe Savannah View Room reserved. I've look back through some past threads and it seems like requesting a room on the Zebra trail is the way to go as far as seeing giraffes, zebras, and other animals AND being fairly close to the pool, restaurants, etc... DH's research says all the deluxe savannah view rooms are on the fifth floor - is this correct? I've noticed posts saying that fourth floor and higher you wind up looking down on the animals and it's not as great of a view. Any opinions about fifth floor rooms? Any information would be appreciated for our first trip to AKL. TIA

We stayed on the fourth floor zebra trail last year and the 2nd floor zebra trail this year (2435). There is a better view of the animals from the second floor. The room we had was a regular savannah view with bunk beds. IT was perfect. Right by the elevators down one floor and you were at the pool and Mara. Down the hallway a little and you walked up the stairs to the lobby. Great location

We were somewhat disappointed with the view from our deluxe savannah view room. I can't find the room number, but it was on the zebra trail, and was convenient to the Mara and pool. I think all the deluxes were on the 4th and 5th floors. We could see one feeding station, but trees blocked a lot of the rest of the view. We saw a lot more of the animals by walking the halls and looking out other windows.

For KellyH123....we are going from July 11th-18th and will be staying at AKL for the first 2 nights...we have also requested a Savannah view room with Queen and 2 bunk beds.

I have 2 sons, ages 8 & 3 1/2....this room sounds perfect for us....2435. Both boys are dying to see the animals..especially the the giraffes and zebras........

Is this room on the Zebra trail/Arusha Savannah?

We had a deluxe Savannah view room. Number 5595 which is a smoking room at the very end of one of the wings. We loved our room and view. It was an expansive view from one savannnah over into another and we could see the animals all very well. The Giraffe ate from the trees right below us and all the animals ran through this area on their way to the Arusha savannah. None of us felt that we were to far up.

We have stayed on both the upper and lower floors. I actually like the lower better and that is also what the CM recommended.

We just got back and we were at the AKL concierge level room 5309. We had a great view of the animals - mostly those cattle-thingies. (DD4 called them the horn heads) We also saw lots of zebra and giraffes and other animals I can't recall the names of. (The give you a picture guide to all the animals)

We stayed in 5305 on the Kudu trail and I will admit that being higher doesn't give you a great view. We did see some animals, but our view of the savannah was blocked by the tree tops, since you're higher up. I got a better view from the 3rd floor overlooks than I got from my room. The deluxe rooms are only located on the fifth floor. Also, both the Zebra trail and Kudu trail over look the Arusha savannah. This is the only savannah with Zebras and some of the Zebra trail rooms overlook the Uzima Savannah. All of the savannahs have giraffes on them, but then the animals differ. If you really want to see zebras, request a view of the Arusha savannah, you'll end up on either the Kudu or Zebra trail.

for better animal viewing. We stayed on the 2nd floor our first time at the AKL and it was the best viewing by far. We could even hear the animals chewing!!!! Had some friends that stayed on the 5th last week and didn't like it either (compared to a previous stay in the 3rd) as they felt they were just looking in and not a part of it.

Just my 2 cents. Enjoy! It will be great either way!
