AKL prices...OUCH!

Well I found someone to rent me points for $11 each, and the Savannah studio was 16 points...it was $176 for the room. I am really excited, the savannah view was really important to us since that is the reason we are staying there verses our Hilton timeshare. I am excited to see how this rental works, because there are other DVC's that we'd like to stay at and now we might have found the way without owning (at this point).

Just beware if you're going thru a private person. There's a certain level of trust involved, as they take your $, and make & control the res.

Oh I know that, she provided references. There is a risk, but it is one that I am willing to take. SHOULD something go wrong, we do still have our timeshare that we can stay at.

Hey Schachteles, just wanted to say good luck on your points rental...you will love the Savannah view. We stayed there in February. You won't be disappointed!

Also, we're in Northfield...so we're neighbors! :)

We are neighbors!! We live right off of Highway 3, love going to Northfield.

I hope we will love it. I am excited to check DVC out, I am not being pushed to look into buying into it.

I hope you can get a room at AKL I think it is a one of a kind type resort!

I booked on an AP discount - a standard room for $220 and was upgraded to a Savannah view room - which seems to happen about 50% of the time during non peak season!

Good luck with your plans!:goodvibes:wizard::goodvibes:wizard:

We've rented points and had great experiences! I never would have afforded Boardwalk or AKL with regular Disney prices. Good luck!

We got the room, so we are excited, will be a great experience. Of course now all my wheels are turning about buying into DVC!!

Your deal as great, I wish we could have gotten something like that. I just won't risk not having the Savannah room, that is the whole reason for us to be there, so I need to book it with that, not hope for an upgrade ::yes::

The renting points thing is cool, I am sad we haven't tried it before. The regular Disney prices are NUTS, but the DVC prices are awesome.

We are renting points for our upcoming November trip and it is a huge savings. Unfortunately, there were no savannah rooms available so we have standard but I'm not sure how much viewing we'd get in the evening in November anyway. It is only costing me $76 more for the trip staying 7 nights in a 1 bedroom, than had I kept my AoA reservation and got free dining. Plus we get a balcony, full kitchen (ideal for breakfast), and in room washer/dryer.:banana:
To say I'm excited is an understatement...November can't come soon enough.

great! do you know if you are staying in jambo house (the old AKL) or kidani village (the new DVC-only section)?

Great news that you got your booking by renting points - a good move all around. I must say staying at AKL sold me on DVC!:goodvibes I am still doing research but plan to buy in the near future now.

There are lots of good places to view the animals at both AKL and Kidani - especially at Kidani as I think the imagineers did a really good job with the savannah there as they had some experience after doing Jambo House.

Enjoy! :wizard:

I could have either, but I chose Kidani since it is newer...hope I made the "right" decision.

not really a wrong one. worst case scenario is probably winding up at the end of a long hallway...

kidani is all villas, so you might get a lower floor closer to the animals. jambo is all on the 5th floor.

kidani has a better water play area for kids IMO but you can use the jambo pool if you are staying at kidani.

kidani is the 1st bus stop coming back from the parks so that's nice (and you are guaranteed a seat going to the parks before the buses stop at jambo). you can also hop the 1st park bus that comes by if you want to use the buses as a shuttle to jambo for their pool or access to mara (the quick service option) or jiko/boma restaurants. (it's a short walk between the 2 buildings but using the buses might be a good option in bad weather.)

coming back from jambo to kidani, you can take the DTD bus as a shuttle since it goes in the reverse direction as the other park buses.

if nothing else, you might want to try breakfast at boma...or maybe lunch at sanaa if you are feeling adventurous.

also, you might want to check out the akl resort website as it has a lot of great info about the resort including a sample activities list.

i know you won't be there long but i think you'll really enjoy it. have a great trip!
