If we do online check-in for AKL in advance, does that eliminate any chance for a room upgrade? I didn't even think a room upgrade was possible till I saw it on here. Now I'm really hoping for one! We arrive 9/21. I don't want to blow our chances for an upgrade by doing online check-in. Please let me know what you think. TIA!!

I've been using online check-in ever since it was offered and I have always gotten a free room upgrade from Standard View to Savannah View. ALWAYS!!!! 100% of the time. I've been there over a dozen times and have always booked a Standard View room, but have never stayed in one.

Thanks for the info...been wondering myself. We are staying at cbr but i try to change to por daily. If we do stay at cbr, which would still be awesome, i was hoping to upgrade. When i called i have mentioned we are celebrating, do you think that helps?

Room upgrades have to do with maintenance issues, over booking of other resorts, people having to check out a day later due to weather issues at home, rooms out of inventory for any reason such as a refurb, conventions, etc.

You have absolutely no control over it, so it is best not to expect it. It would not be the best way to start your trip being disappointed that you didn't get one.

The PP is probably very, very lucky to have been upgraded so many times. All the above mentioned reasons for upgrades aren't tied to the online check-in service.

You can certainly ask for an upgrade, but most likely you will be quoted the price to do so and you have to decide if it is worth it to you. The best way not to get a free upgrade is to ask for one.....

Well to be fair, it's also AKL Standard to Savannah, probably the most common upgrade possible. With AKL it's odd since the 'Savannah' category is actually covers the largest # of rooms, and there are also the handful of obstructed view Savannah rooms that are in Standard still.

To clarify [to others reading, not the person I quoted above obviously :)], Never Anticipate an Upgrade. It's a very easy way to get disappointed, if you really want that booking category, pay for it. Else let the cards land where they may :).

True; but as you see the PP read another thread on upgrades and now is hoping for one.

While there are some resorts that have some categories that have a lot more rooms in that inventory, not all do.

But as you said as well, always best to book what you want and let the cards fall where they may. Best not to set up your trip with a disappointment that you didn't get an upgrade.

Maybe I didn't word it correctly. I'm not expecting an upgrade. If we don't get one, I won't be disappointed. We'll be in Disney World!!! What's disappointing about that :) An upgrade would just be an awesome bonus.

Thanks for all the info!!
