It's a 3 hour tour (seriously); group of 12 people max. Starting April 5th, book yours now!
You get breakfast at Boma, story time from an African CM, and a safari truck ride that includes behind the scenes sort of stuff.

3 hrs seems a little short for that price. I guess breakfast raises the price.

I've done the one they only offer to people staying there and it's about 3 hours and costs that much. But you get pre-safari snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, then a 4 or 5 course dinner after with wine and cocktails included. That one is well worth the price.

I think like a lot of these "extras" the value will be in the details. It mentions unique food items at Boma - so how special are they? Same with the story teller - is it just some short thing, nothing special or is it a real productions? And then it mentions "close-up animal encounters, which may include giraffe, ostrich and okapi." ... how close? Like getting to feed the giraffe close or just slightly closer than the regular safari ride?

I don't know how much closer you can get than the actual safari. I've had some very very close encounters.

I guess part of my point - unless you really get to interact with them or get to see them in their "off stage" pens or something, not sure what this would imply and how it would justify the cost

I am really interested to see what this is all about. It is more expensive than the backstage magic tour, which goes backstage at all four parks plus other places, a nice lunch at Whispering Canyon, motor coach transportation, and 7-8 hours of information/entertainment. It's also more quite a bit more expensive than the Wild Africa Trek, which also includes a meal (not as good as boma though!) and gets you close to animals.

If I were to be able to touch animals? I'd pay it in a heartbeat. Otherwise? Way too pricy.

The Sunrise Safari used to be $75 (requiring an AKL club level stay) and we got about an hour on the Safari. Stopping multiple times so the guide could talk about the animals. We spent a good 10-15 minutes just on the lions.

yeah, but for the increased price you get to run up and hug the lion.
