AKL LITE unofficial FAQ thread#10 - I believe that's known as a 'Jambo Dozen'

We are moving our daughter to Orlando in less than 2 weeks to start the CP! Her role is "recreation" so she will likely be working at one of the resort pools! :goodvibes

To answer your question about the significance of "LITE": it really doesn't have anything to do with the information on this thread! :rolleyes1 This is the FAQ for AKL & AKV! :thumbsup2

There was some confusion several years back with the Mods combining 2 AKL threads; they also moved the AKL FAQ to the Community Board for awhile! :confused3

Things eventually got straightened out and this thread (and its 9 predecessors!) have remained on the Resorts Board! ;) As to why the thread title still has "LITE" in it, only Kimmar can answer that for sure!

Kimmar? Why do you still keep "lite" in the title?! :flower3:

....tastes great........:scratchin.......or, less filling.....I forget which.....:confused3

I gave up my Pool view and moved to YC.

Because we are going for F&W, I couldn't pass up the AP rate ($9 more that the AKL pool view) to be able to walk into Epcot.

I haven't been back to AKL since the EEC race in May.. I am starting to miss it!

.....I. am. seriously. jealous.

This is our second trip to Disney and our first stay at AKL. We just have a standard view room. Are our girls going to be disappointed or are there plenty of areas to view wildlife? I wish we could afford to spring for a room with a view but it was a huge stretch for us to do AKL in the first place so we had to make do. After scoping out this thread am I better off to make some requests in our online check-in or just hope for the best when we check in at the resort? Last time at POFQ I wasn't impressed with our room location but I didn't really have high expectations or didn't know enough to request either. This time I see someone said to request a certain trail and an upper floor here at AKL for a standard room.

I've started to look at maps etc and I get overwhelmed and shut down. :worried: Last visit we stayed at POFQ which is obviously much smaller and this time I am a little overwhelmed.

We arrive Sept 20th. Our girls are 13 and 10 and we will be celebrating the youngest one's birthday and my graduation with my master's! I'm meeting the family there after presenting at a national conf so I will definitely be ready for some fun!! :cool1:

Anyone ever use go pros in the parks? I just purchased 1 for our trip. Figure I can use it on splash mountain and at the AKL pool and slide?

Also Measured my 4 year old son this morning in at 47 inches. Looks like someone is now tall enough for 90% of the rides!! Made my day

Also 50 days left:hyper:

Can I start packing?!?!?!?:cool1:

....you haven't ALREADY???!?!?!

....first of all, just BREATHE....even if the view from your room isn't 'ideal', you will not be sorry that you chose AKL. There are so many places to view animals, and each location is totally unique - from the floor-to-ceiling windows that separate each of the building 'pods' as you walk down the hallways, to Arusha Rock, to the are just beyond the hot tub, where you get to use night-vision glasses. The atmosphere here is so relaxing that you'll never want to leave....

BTW ~ welcome to our thread and CONGRATS on your accomplishment! :thumbsup2

[...I was robbed...I didn't get a trip to WDW when I got MY Master's.... ]

There are a lot of areas to view the savannah. There is a main look out off the lobby and you can view them from areas on the other side of the pool too. You may even see animals through the window-ed areas of the hallways (though its a small view). And, while I would not count on this at all, SOME standard views have a small/partial view of the savannah. Say, you look really far to the left and it's there ;) If I were you I would put a request on for a partial savannah view or close to the lobby for easy access to viewing. Worst case scenario you just walk to the lobby. And who knows, maybe you get some birthday pixie dust? AKL was wonderful to me on my birthday!

.....too bad you aren't going the first week of November....then you could meet my brother, who is a BIG TIME Steelers fan.....

Hi everyone! I just posted a new thread about standard view rooms near the food court before I found this thread. I need to read through all these wonderful posts, but that will take me months. Luckily our trip is not until next November. It will be our first trip with just myself and DH. We have gone with as many as 26 people and once with just us and our 2 kids (who will be 19 and 21 when we go). I think I will still feel guilty for leaving my DD t home. DS was never a big Disney fan, so don't feel so guilty about him. LOL We have gone on 7 trips prior to this one. We have never stayed at AKL, but it has always been my dream. So we are hoping to make it happen!!! I will be so excited to be there regardless of my view. But I would like a room closer to the food court and such. Not even sure of the layout of the resort and if there are standard rooms close to everything. I just know no matter what we will be thrilled to be there, if we can make it happen!!! Fingers crossed!!!!

We'll be there Dec 5-9 (check out early the 10th). We've stayed at the Pop twice so this is our first big resort stay. The room discount didn't save us hardly anything at Pop but we were able to switch to AKL for a small amount more!

Food Court? In AKL?

If you want to be near The Mara, AKL's quick service (which is the closest thing AKL has to a food court! ;)), request "near lobby". :thumbsup2 The restaurants and pool are easily reached from the lobby! :thumbsup2

....Deluxe resorts typically do not have a food court, but they do have a quick-serve type eatery (like a cafeteria-style place). However, there is The Mara, which is conveniently located near the pool area. You may want to request Giraffe Trail, near elevator if you have a standard room booked. That way it will be very convenient to the lobby, the pool, the restaurants, and the bus....:thumbsup2

Wanted to post here in case people missed my separate thread but ALL Ears, which is usually a very reliable source, is reporting that the Sunrise Safari is going to be discontinued of December 28th. Very sad news and anyone booking after that time to go on the sunrise Safari might want to verify with Disney that this information is correct

Hi
Heading down Dec 8th for two nights at the AKL Club level this December ( doing a split stay)

My question is what trail should I request ? I have stayed there back in 2007 and was on the Zebra trail. I know club level rooms are on the 4th floor & the lounge is on the 6th floor. I liked this view. But any other suggestions? Also going to do Boma the first day & Tusker House the last day. I eaten at Boma's & liked it. Tusker House was so so. Any other suggestions at the AK Park to eat sit down? I have food allergies. Thanks !!:goodvibes

Sadly true. That one reason I booked for two nights there but they only do the Sunrise Safari on Sunday & Thursday so I can't do it. :( It would be too much to change my plans as I am doing a split stays. Oh well did it the first time when we stayed there.

Oh my! I hope everyone is being lighthearted about their comments. I did look into the Mara, and knew the name, but just referred to it as a food court, cause that is what I consider the fast food eateries at the resorts. Guess I need to learn some deluxe terminology, so I don't break the etiquette laws. LOL

Thanks to those who offered suggestions. :)
