AKL LITE unofficial FAQ thread#10 - I believe that's known as a 'Jambo Dozen'

Morning! I'm new here and need some feedback about our upcoming trip. My family and I (DS 8 and DD 6) have booked a trip to AKL in August (bunk bed pool view, dining package). Unfortunately I was messing around on Orbitz last night and discovered with their 20% off pin, it puts the Club Level at only $40 more per night (!). This would mean canceling our Disney package and, thus, giving up the Dining Plan (which I'm ok with but husband isn't). What do you think? We'll likely spend a bit more overall on food in the end (we'd have $750 to spend on food before we hit the same price as our original package) as we still want to enjoy some table serve meals, though I really don't think our family needs 8 desserts a day, etc. The thought of having a room with a view and breakfast is very enticing! I am also a little cautious about giving up our designated bunk bed room, though I know they are available at the Club Level. This is also probably our only trip to Disney...

Any insight for me out there? Thanks much!

Amy
....what was the code? I totally forgot...:confused3. TIA...

It was the DISCOVER code but I think it expired at the end of March. I was quite a deal! Now I just count the days until August... :-)

Is there a hair wrapping station at AKL?

And when do they typically do the marshmallow roasting at the firepit? I'm bring marshmallows, chocolate, and gluten free graham crackers for s'mores!

Last year it was 6:30-7:30...and where did you find GF graham crackers?

....oh yeah...I think the hair-wrapping is still by the pool...

Local supermarket here had them! I was baffled; my end of the woods is very unfriendly to food sensitivities and allergies, but they've started carrying a shelf or two of gluten-free snacks! I plan on bringing graham crackers, ice cream cones, protein bars, and a few others things I can't get or get without paying a fortune in Disney. :thumbsup2

I can check the brand of crackers if you want… it was some weird brand, not the typical Glutino or Vans or Udi's.

And I swear, I'm not trying to be nag with all of these questions, I just have so many because I'm so unsure of all of this even after the last three successful trips to WDW! My room in Kidani has a kitchenette, which to me understanding is a microwave and mini-fridge, same as the family suites in AoA. Can I bring a hot plate with me and use it, or is this still a huge no even with the cooking space? I'm an 'eggs all day' kind of girl, and occasionally crave them in the evening (like, 7-9PM, not 2AM, I'm not cooking at 2AM, that's nuts) but I do not want to even think about it if it's off-limits. I know hot plates are forbidden from standard rooms for fire-code reasons. But the studios and villa rooms with kitchenettes?

As a roundabout way of answering your question, I was trying to find the list of what people keep in their Owner's Lockers. I'm pretty sure I've seen people post that they keep George Forman Grills and crock pots, which they use for cooking in their DVC villas. If I can find anything similar to a hot plate, I'll post it.

Edited to add: somebody posted this month that they keep a griddle in their Owner's Locker. Somebody else mentioned an electric waffle maker.

And I found a thread on the DVC Mouscellaneous Board where people discussed using electric skillets:

(For those who don't know, Owners Locker is a service which provides large plastic storage bins to people who travel to the Orlando area frequently. You sign up, they deliver an empty bin to your hotel. You fill up the bin. They pick it up at your hotel after you check out, store it, and deliver it to your hotel the next time you're in the Orlando area.)

Thank you, that really does help. I did call AKV today and ask outright if a waffle iron or hot plate was permitted in rooms with kitchenettes, but the woman on the phone said no. I know, CMs get stuff wrong all the time, I'm just so worried. Last thing I want to do is be kicked out of my room because I did something wrong. The very idea makes me incredibly nervous.

I am 13 days from our weekend at AKL and then, I was suppose to stay at Pop the following weekend for a girls weekend with some friends... But I couldn't bear the thought of Pop, so I upgraded back to AKL..lol.. So, 3 days then home for 5 and back for 3!!!

The thing is, when you think you're calling a Disney hotel, you're usually speaking to someone at a call center, not people at the hotel itself. Are you sure you were really speaking to someone at the hotel?

Does DVC have someone else to speak to that governs their properties. Is regular Disney booking the only place to call?
