AKL LITE II - We're #2, but we try harder....

Definitely try out a savanna view if you can -- it's wonderful! I put in a similar request even though it may affect our view. My DD and I really enjoyed watching the animals from our balcony in the early morning.

Unless a FANTASTIC AP rate comes out for somewhere else, we'll probably keep this view. I'm too cheap with my DVC points since we do not have a lot to splurge on a Savannah view, so this may be our big shot at one :rotfl:

My sister Katharina and I have booked our flights today (the most important thing as this is one of the biggest cost factors)!!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

We will be at WDW from 1/27 to 2/5 and will celebrate Katharina's 35th birthday on 2/3!!:banana::banana:

Everything else is still very much undecided, but if you are intersted, you are welcome to read along in my PTR: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2208016

:yay::dance3::yay: How fun!!

I had to share the most amazing cloud formation. I have never seen anything like it before!

Wow, another great picture!

Hi again everyone :wave2:

My girlfriend and I got back from our AKL stay a couple weeks ago and we had one of the best times that we've ever had there. We had a great savanna view on the Sunset Savanna. The only animals that didn't close to our window was the zebras. I need to make a trip report when I get a chance, but I'll talk about about some of the highlights here.

We did the Wanyama Safari while we were there (on a Saturday) and we were the only two on the safari. We got to walk all around the safari truck to take pictures and on our little picnic break in the middle of the safari, we got the food pretty much all to ourselves. Got plenty of great shots that I'll have to post later. Jiko was also great with portions that could have easily fed a group of 4-5, all for just us two.

We did our first Disney water park, Typhoon Lagoon, and had a blast (considering that the both of us can't swim :p); got to ride the Characters in Flight at DTD; took the sea raycers out for a little bit at the Polynesian and got sunburned; had great views for Wishes (directly in the front of the castle at the Walt and Mickey statue; took great character pictures thanks to the Character Dining at Crystal Palace and Garden Grill; and started a new Disney collection, Vinylmation.

Here's a sample of pictures from our vacation..

Nostradeimos, I love the picture of both of you with the giraffe! :goodvibes Sounds like a wonderful trip.

One question: Did you use the buses and if yes, what was your experience with them?

Nostradeimos - so glad to hear that you were able to take the sea racers out. I can't swim either and wondered if I'd be able to do that.

Hi Everyone:wave:
I am going in October and staying at Jambo House :cool1: my cousin gave
me her DVC points for a weeks stay in a studio with a savanna view, and I was wondering if all the savanna's have DVC rooms? Is one savanna better than another? Do they all have giraffes? Sorry for all the questions..this has been my dream to stay here for as long as AKL has been there. :goodvibes

:thanks: in advance
Nancy

Hi guys! Great thread, but very long... We just added two nights at AKL; switiching from CBR. Extremely excited. We have savanah view, but wondering what else should we ask for or make sure we do during our two days at AKL?

Boo....:sad2:. Sadly I just tried to upgrade my standard view to a savanna view with the pin that I had originally set up a ressie with. Since the pin has since expired, the girl could not do it.

Oh well....guess I'll try and hope for a better deal.

Has anyone had any luck at the time of check-in, upgrading to a better view?

Can I just ask then and pay the difference??

Thanks

Wow, it sounds like you had a great time! So what can you do at a water park if you can't swim? I have never gone to one since I can't swim.

Yes, there are DVC rooms on all three savannas. And yes, giraffees are on all 3 savannas. I am not sure which is the best savanna. I have stayed on both the Arusha and Sunset savannas and have enjoyed both of them.

We reserved a standard room at AKL, and 2 weeks ago when we checked in, we were given a savanna view. I guess it technically was an obstructed savanna view since we had a small section of the savanna and the barn. We were happy with it, and the view of the barn was an advantage since the animals came to the barn area every morning and evening. We didn't ask about an upgrade, so I don't know what your chances are of paying the difference.

Another question for you AKL usuals....I know there are coffee pots in the rooms. Is this (gasp...sorry)....Nescafe coffee? If I bring my own coffee, should I bring special filters?

Does Mara serve Nescafe as well? If not, then I will just buy the mugs and fill-er-up every morning.

Thanks

Yes, you will need to bring your own filters b/c they have the tea-bag style coffee in the room. I don't know what the Mara serves for certain, but I bet it's the Nescafe' stuff. :sad2:

Hi everybody -- too many posts to catch up with, but I just had to say that these pictures are great!!! Love the one with you both and the giraffe (my favorite) too. I'm afraid of heights, so the pic from the balloon will be the closest I get to it, lol!

Thanks to the AKL IPO. All ADRs and Request made today.

Taking my family in September.

First time for Wishes Cruise.

Going to the Waterpark and they reserved me a Cabana. I have to stay out of the sun but I did not want to miss time with my family.:wizard:
