AKL LITE II - We're #2, but we try harder....

PracPerfPatricia - I'm glad you weren't hurt more than you were. Your poor family - I'm sure that had to be terrifying.
Hope everyone has a great 4th - we have season passes to nearby Hershey Park, but assume it will be packed, so we're going to a friend's house for a cook out. My husband is Greek and so are they so they told us the 15 types of meat they will be serving. I'm curious if there will be any vegetables at all - maybe it will be like the all-you-can-eat-meat fest at Ohana.

I feel better but the "injured area" is still healing thanks. We love :lovestruc Hershey Park-ok- maybe not as much as Disney but still it ranks especially with all the yummy chocolate/theming and to eat...:goodvibes-we live right outside Philadelphia so it's either an overnighter for us or a really long day...I love Greek food but don't get it that often although there is a Greek Church around the corner that has a 5 day festival every year and we usually eat there at least 4 out of the 5 days to get our fix...

I was wondering since AKL is so far out does everyone eat at Boma's alot. I was wondering about this and thinking if I should upgrade to the deluxe dining plan. I have been on the dining plan before but never the deluxe. I do perfer to have a sit down meal. I have read that the Mara isn't that great. So if you have to eat at Boma all the time. I will be traveling alone this time with my two kids 8 & 6. I really didn't want to travel for every meal if we are not at a park. What do other people do staying at the AKL? Thank you for your help in this matter.

Emma

It depends on what you call "a lot".

Usually, we eat there 3 times a trip: 2 dinners (one on arrival day, one later in the trip) and one breakfast.

This time, only twice (we're doing Saana on arrival day, instead).

But we tend to make our dining plans around the parks we plan to be in...so we typically eat either in the park, or in a resort somewhere close to/connected to the park we're going to be in that day.

:thumbsup2

I probably only eat at Boma once per trip. I normally plan my meals based upon the park that I will be at and make my ADR for a TS place either in the park or near it.

:thumbsup2

We are going in I think 42 day-OMG-:woohoo:

Emma-others have already give some good advice about eating at/near the park you are going to be that day-I can only add my agreement...

(I also like to have the option of eating at my resort-it's just really relaxing-which is another reason to choose AKL-the food is really good...)

we have ressies for a dinner at Boma, a dinner at Jiko, we'll probably grab at dinner at Mara one night, & while we don't have a dinner at Saana- I'd like to have lunch there our last day...hhhmmm-wonder if I should make ressies for that...:confused3

anyhow... also have a Breakfast at Tusker House in the AK and a dinner at Yak & Yeti there because they are close by...(5 minute bus ride)

We know one night we want to go to DTD so I also made a dinner ressie at Raglan Road and one night we are going to be taking a pirates wishes cruise that leaves from the Contemporary's marina so we are going to try the Wave there...

I do agree that AKL is a little further (especially from MK) which is also one of the things that is appealing-you get that away from it all feeling...but if you are traveling alone with your kids it can get tiring to travel around a lot amd there are many nice relaxing activities to do at the Lodge in the evenings so...

a couple of dinners at Boma is doable-it is very good with some menu rotation and lots of choices...

Sanaa has gotten raves...

Jiko is great but 2 TS-don't know if you want that...

and Mara is by far and away one of the nicer CS places at any of the WDW resorts and earlier on this thread there were some nice photos of the food service by pool at Kidani and it also looked nice...:thumbsup2

You can also do your bigger meals at Lunch-and schedule TS ressies in the park you'll be in that day...

Good luck-you are sure to have an awesome time whatever way you choose to dine...:goodvibes

So now that things have settled down at work, I'm second guessing doing a split stay and wondering if I should spend the whole trip at AKL. Right now it's 3 days AKL, 3 days WL. I might just leave it up to my mom, who's never been to any of the resorts there (let alone the parks). I think what worries me are the buses - my kids are still pretty young and even though they think they have endless amounts of energy, they do not. And neither do I, to be honest.
I'm pretty sure I'm overthinking this trip way, way too much. :).

Thank you for all the info. We are going to try Saana also. I have seen some of the reviews and it looks like we will enjoy it. Thanks again!!

Hi everyone! Just got back from AKL last week. We ate at Sanaa twice, stayed on the DVC level. Loved everything as usual (that was our third trip in under 12 months :cloud9:)...let me know if you have any questions.

...we want to see PIX, and, perhaps a review on Sanaa.....[please]

The last of the "supersecret anniversary surprise" plans were set and paid for, today.

Now, I have a wee bit of writing/research to do (which means sneakily pulling out our wedding scrapbook), a quick CD to make, and I'll be all set.

Hi everyone!
What can I say, he got spoiled at AK!

I should really delete my ticker because I have to face the fact that the trip is not happening this November, but it's too depressing to think about. :sad2:

:rotfl: I know the feeling! Nothing compares to the 'real thing'!

I'm sorry to hear more about how your November trip won't be happening, I've been holding out in hope that it would somehow happen for you!! Next year?

Oh goodness! I hadn't seen this pic! So scary. I've read a few stories on here about people who had him for their monorail driver LAST WEEK. Breaks my heart. :sad1:

Oh we all overthink our trips. ;)

AKL and WL are both AMAZING. I am not big into resort switching-just too much of a pain in the rear (might be easier if you have a car?). So, I probably would just stick at AKL; however, WL is truly stunning. And it does have the bonus of the boat to MK/monorail. But the bus service at AKL is MUCH better than WL.

It's getting close! I can't wait to read about it!
What are your dates again?

...the driver was only 21 years old....like my DS's age...:sad1: ...so sad really...

...the "Broken Foot/Kitchen Fire" story:

we used to have a 3-tiered deck directly off our back [kitchen] door, which were painted all in the same color. The 'slats' or boards ran horizontally (or, that's what it looked like when you looked out our back door's window) so you couldn't easily tell where one decking ended and another began. I love to light candles throughout the house and I am always vigilant about them. I never leave a room for longer than a minute with a burning candle, or, if I do, I have that candle in view. Ths particular evening I had a night class at the college, so I was busy clearing the dishes from the table and cleaning the kitchen. My DH, who had been the head coach of his football team [at the time] was having his assistant coaches and team come over to our house to watch the previous week's game for, what he calls a 'skull session' on our big-screen tv. Our guests were told by my DH to use to back door when arriving at our home - no big deal, except that the door was constantly opening and closing from all the entering guests. No biggie, except for the fact that there was a lit candle on the shelf on the wall right next to that back door, and, one of the players opened the door a little too much, making the curtain on the door's window catch fire!! :scared1: As he closed the door, I immediately noticed that the curtain was burning, so I ran to the door, removed the curtain, rod and all, from the door, and proceeded to hurry out the door to throw the burning curtain into the pile of snow in my backyard. Unfortunately, I didn't see where one deck ended and the next one began, so I fell, twisting my ankle HARD and coming down on my foot in a not-so-good position! My foot IMMEDIATELY ballooned to about 3 sizes larger and turned colors that I didn't know even existed....stupid me went off to my night class anyway - my foot just about BURST out of my sneaker.....talk about 'taking one for the team'!!

Yay :cheer2: Can't wait to read all about it and show it to DH (better known as 312.Duck) Perhaps it will give him an idea to two - although I won't hold my breath on that! :rotfl:

Ouch!!! :headache: I can't imagine how you went to class that night.

But you were very lucky to see it start so that you could put it out so soon.
