I just returned from a fabulous week at WDW. It had been 11 years since my last visit, but I hope it won't be that long until my next. AKL is beautiful. My DH and I spent some time sitting in the lobby just marveling over the different wood carvings and the rest. The lobby is on the dark side but it is awe inspiring. The room was also decorated well. I had seen pictures of the Lodge but they had not done justice to its beauty. I have only seen several places with tilework that would match this.

We ate several times at the Mara and it was ok. For a quick breakfast and snacks it was great. We ate once at Boma. It was nice. The food was good. The one problem we found was that there was a lot of different combinations of foods we were not accustomed to, but I guess that is what is to be expected.

As for the parks, MK was so crowded. My DSs decided which days to do each park. They unfortunately waited until Friday for MK. We did MGM on Monday and hit it just right. We didn't have to wait for anything. The AK was very enjoyable. It's Tough to Be a Bug is fantastic. Well worth the short wait, matter of fact, it is worth a long wait. Epcot bored my 10 yo DSs, so we didn't see much of it. Blizzard Beach was great.

The weather was hot and it only rained once while we were there, but the bugs were not out much. The only time they were evident was while we were waiting for the 9:30 Hoop De Doo Revue.

I want to thank you all for helping us plan our trip to WDW. These boards helped make it enjoyable!!!

Glad you enjoyed your AKL stay. It is a beautiful resort. What floor were you on? Did you have a savanna view? Thanks for your report!:)

wondering about the "NOSEEUMS" ? did you get bit by any ?
thanks michelle

Patio - we stayed on the third floor, the same as the lobby. We had a room on the Zebra Trail with a savannah view. When we arrived at the resort we were in awe of the animals. By the end of the week we had taken it for granted that the animals would be there.

Bigsis1970 - not only were the noseeums not present but even the state bird of Florida (the mosquito) was only out when we were at the Ft Wilderness campgrounds for the Revue.

and thoroughly enjoyed this resort! Words and photos cannot do it justice. We were upgraded from a standard view to a Uzima Savanna View room (5516) in the Zebra Trail section of the lodge. It was really great watching the different animals roam around. We found Boma to be excellent but we enjoy trying different kinds of food at WDW. My DW has a wheat/gluten allergy so the chef came out and explained every item on every pod to her. We had no problems whatsoever with "no-seeums" but we were armed with bug spray just in case. We never used it.
Glad you enjoyed your stay, jean921!

Re: AKL and noseeums... I think they can and could be anywhere in the state of FLA from the posts I've read. Makes me think the noseeums are like those postcards with the special codes that people receive out of the blue - random selection and you never know when you are going to be on the distribution list ;)
