Just wondering if the animals are as visible on the Savannah in June? I know at the theme park it's harder to find them when it's hot so I'm assuming it's the same at the resort? If we take afternoon resort breaks will the animals usually be out?

I have never been there, but we are going in July so will be very interested to see the replies. I have read things that suggest it is better viewing in the morning and evening. Have a great trip!

I would like to know too. We are going the first week of Sept.

I stayed at the AKL in late August 2002(temps in the 90's and heat index near 100). There were plenty of animals to be seen. Luckily the room I was assigned had a "watering hole" view on the savannah, and lots of critters came thru to enjoy a drink and the shade.

Just as an FYI, each savannah has most of the animals pulled off for a two hour period during each afternoon so they can clean the savannah and do any needed repair work without the animals around. The times vary by savannah, and they rotate them so taht it won't be the same time for the same savannah every day. So it is possible that during your rest time, there might not be any animals out on "your" savannah. If this happens you can always go to a viewing area for another savanaah where there will be animals present.

Thanks for the replies! Topper...do you remember where your room was located? :)

We don't recall the room number, but we do remember it was a hike to the room! It was 3rd or 4th floor, all the way at the end just before the deluxe rooms at the end of the wing. We were in the wing to the right (if you are facing the hotel from the front). Heck, I can't even remember what *trail* we were on (it was my 40th b-day ;) ). All I know is we enjoyed the room, the view and the critters. How's that for specific

Sorry I can't give you better info. I have everything bagged away. If I have the time this weekend (and it doesn't look likely  ) I'll see what I can dig up.

We were there in late August, 2002, also ----way too hot for me. There were many, many animals, as already mentioned. It's not like the safari --- but now that I think of it, we've never really been disappointed in the safari even when it was hot. Except for the lions sleeping, we've always seen lots of other animals no matter what time we go (usually between 10 and 5PM)

We went august-- september last year stayed at Akl. and I may add it was oppressively hot. We saw animals tons every day. A Cm told me that the release schedule differs from Animal kingdom itself.at animal kingdom they are released during the day, at the lodge they are in the enclosures during the day and released at about 5pm. That did seem to hold true, as we were near the enclosure for the girraffes, and in the early am they would be heading back towards the enclosure maybe about 7am. As we arrived from the parks about 5-5-30 they would be walking from the enclosure. So actually the times we were more likely to be in the room, is when we saw the animals. we had a great experience and loved the property. nay questions you can pm me I will happy to answer you.

Thanks all! That is great news...we can't wait. Got our Disney Vacation Planner DVD today and there is a special segment on AKL...so much more stunning than even the pictures we've seen :).
