AKL - did you get a room upgrade?? = Will I??

DF and I will be at WDW for the FIRST time and were just lucky enough to get upgraded from POR to AKL - standard view for FREE. Not that I'm not TOTALLY greatfull for the upgrade or trying to push it, but I was just wondering if there was a chance of a room upgrade (standard to savannah) and the chance of getting a king (wanted desperately since it is our honeymoon).... We will be there during Value Season if that has any affect (1/6-1/13) Thanks!

A chance, always, but it seems they have already worked the magic for you, so I would not plan on anything else.

OH DEFINITELY NOT EXPECTING MORE!!!!!! Just asking because I've heard alot about AKL generously giving upgrades. We consider ourselves VERY blessed to have gotten this much pixie dust sent our way!!!!

That's also marathon weekend, so it may be pretty packed--don't think it would happen as easily since it's a big event weekend.

We were just there. We were traveling with three seperate parties. Two of the reservations were made at the same time for savannah view. The third was made about three weeks before we left. We were told there was no savannah view left, so she took a pool view. However when she checked in they gave her a savannah view right next to our rooms at no additional expense. So it may happen.

Well, I'm just sooo thankful to have been upgraded to AKL from POR for free that the view probably won't bother me. I was just wondering if there was a chance we would get to have our morning coffee on our balcony watching the zebra's. Romantic way to begin a honeymoon

We were given an upgrade from standard to sav. June 07.

Had to turn it down because when we got to the room, it stunk of cleaner and the carpet was wet. So we were moved back down to standard. Ended up LOVING the location and glad we didn't stay. Well, glad for the location, sad for the deluxe sav. view.

Oh well, can't win them all.

Yes, there is a chance. The first time we stayed at AKL was when we were upgraded from POFQ to AKL because they were closing down the resort. We were upgraded to a standard view and then to a savannah view at check in. It was great! Disney knew what they were doing, though. On the next trip to AKL I booked and paid for a savannah view. Our next trip to AKL will be on our brand-new AKV DVC points.

So ... yes there is a chance that you will get an upgrade to a pool or savannah view. I'm not sure what the availability of king beds are. I would just ask when you check in and tell them it's your honeymoon. Congratulations and good luck!

I've been there twice and i've gotten 2 free upgrades from standard-view to savannah view. What you need to do while you're checking in is ask "Are there any free room upgrades today?" You'll may be amazed at how easy they may say yes to you during value season. The chances are better than average that you'll get an upgrade. Please post back and let us know what happens.

I've been there twice and both times were upgraded, BUT that was before they took a ton of rooms and turned them into DVC rooms. Now that there are floors of DVC rooms the stock of regular AKL rooms are no longer available which means your chances of an upgrade are much lower than they were when I and many others here went. I would not get your hopes up too high.

You can put King Bed on your reservation, and also list that it's your Honeymoon, and hopefully they'll realize the need of that King!
I assume that would give it to you if it's available, but unlike the Moderates you can't book a King bed, so there's always the chance that you won't get it. I would ask when you get there, because there could be one available.

Also, I found on the allearsnet.com Animal Kingdom Lodge Fact Sheet that AKL has 79 king bed rooms, and 65 accessible rooms w/ king bed. I don't know if that means 144 total, or only 14 are not accessible...

Thanks for the bed # info!!. I hope our trend of pixie dust continues at check in and we will get lucky enough to at least get a king, if not a complementary savanna view upgrade and a king!! It won't kill our trip to have 2 queens, or even a room with a king and bunk beds, but we would certainly like a king!!

Well, I guess it's not technically an upgrade for free per se - i used a discount code - but it was an upgrade to me Here's how it happened.

Originally were booked at POR with Deluxe Dining Package and 8 day tickets with waterpark and more and park hopper option ($2994). Called CRO to apply the January discount code and no more rooms left for this code. Asked what else moderate was available - only CBR. Nah, didn't want that. CM then asked me to please hold he wanted to check on something. When he came back he said we could be upgraded to AKL, same dining, same tickets and the price of the package would be ($2933) which is a savings of $61. So, of course I took the deal. He said he hoped we had a wonderful first time at disney and a magical honeymoon and that was that.
