Okay - melomouse needs input!!! All opinions gratefully appreciated...

Having just spent 6 wonderful days at WL this summer, me and DS(10) and DD(6) are lucky enough to return to WDW October 25-30 to meet up with DStepson attending a conference in Orlando. Got fabulous air and they will miss only 3 school days...

As this is an unplanned trip - we are not budgeted for too much in the way of accomodations. Tried to get into WL 4 nites at standard room AP rate - not available - I'm checking every day.
Took ressies for POR at great rate, but definitely not my first choice.

The CM just suggested CR gardenview at same price( as WL) or AKL. If I do one of these, it'll be 4 nights, not 5, since our flight arrives around dinnertime and we'll just stay offsite 1st nite.

Also thinking of not renting a car this trip. I prefer a "smaller" resort, not so spread out. Can't/won't switch to FQ right now.

Any comments from those of you who kinow the resorts much better than I do??

Thanks so much!! You guys are great!

We have stayed in the garden rooms at CR and at POR. We have not stayed at AKL, but have heard great things about it and have ressies for December. Therefore, I can only comment on CR and POR.

The convienience of the monorail at CR is great! It is really nice to have the option of walking to and from the MK, especially after evening fireworks or a parade. Also, the rooms are very large (over 400 sq ft) and the day bed is really comfortable. If you enjoy character dining, Chef Mickey's is a must.

POR is also a great resort. The rooms are not as large (315 sq ft) but they do not feel crowded at all. It is a little spread out, but there are many bus stops and the restaurant (Boatrights) is GREAT! Additionally, the Alligator Bayou section offers trundle beds so you would have three beds there as well! This resort also has a lot of fun things to do such as bike rentals, boat rentals, and there is a GREAT piano show in the bar that your kids will LOVE.

Lastly, do try and book Mickey's Not So Scarey Halloween Party. We did this last year and our kids loved it. The Halloween Parade and fireworks are worth the price of admission!
