Hi ya!

We're going to WDW in November for our 20th anniv., and we've decided on AKL. We are considering concierge, but I had a few questions.

I've been reading some of the posts about AKL, and I'm a little confused about the conciege rooms. Are all concierge rooms deluxe rooms? By that, I mean do they have a daybed, and are they the rooms that are slightly larger than the regular rooms? And, all concierge rooms are located on either the 5th or 6th floor? Is that view as good as the lower level rooms that are closer to the animals?

I'm sure I'll have more questions.

Thank ya!

They do'nt all have a day bed, I couldn't really tell the difference in size, and all but the suites are on the 5th and 6th floors.

We've been on the 5th floor and in a suite on the 3rd floor and the view was the same either way IMHO.

AKL For Me, welcome to the Dis!

Please click here for the AKL FAQ thread. That thread should answer a lot of your AKL questions.

If you go to the official WDW website in regards to the AKL, you can see the various deluxe room layouts: click here for AKL room layouts. If you have a particular need in regards to bedding, have it noted when you make your reservation. Disney will do their best to honor your request.

Happy (early) anniversary. And enjoy the AKL. It is my favorite resort and has my favorite Cast Members, especially the folks in the Kilimanjaro Club (concierge lounge).

No, they are not all Deluxe rooms. They will all be either on the 5th or 6th floor. We just stayed at AKL conceirge last weekend, and had two standard savannah view room on the 5th floor.

Awesome photo's Pete. Hopefully when I return from Italy I'll learn how to post my vacation photo's.

Thanks for the information. Now I'm really confused! I called AKL front desk and they said that the rooms on the 5th and 6th floor are all the larger sized rooms. So, I don't know what to think now.

Anyway, I have another question, for those who have stayed concierge. We have decided to book it. Got a great rate. I emailed them (saw the email address posted on these boards-thanks) to give them a list of the PS I want. How long does it normally take them to respond?

TIA.

From what I understand, there are both standard and deluxe rooms located on the 5th floor. However, if you book concierge level, you will definitely be assigned to a deluxe room. I think the 6th floor only has deluxe rooms, and there aren't very many rooms on the 6th floor. When we stayed concierge at AKL we were in a deluxe room on the 5th floor, and had 2 queen beds. Please note that the deluxe rooms with 2 queen beds do NOT have a daybed. The deluxe rooms with a king bed, or one queen plus a bunkbed DO have daybeds. But if you want a daybed, you won't get one in a room with 2 queens. The deluxe rooms are about the same size as a room at the YC or BC, around 380 square feet if I remember correctly from when I researched this in the past. The standard rooms are around 340 square feet, similar in size to a room at the WL. I hope this helps! :)

Editing to add that now I'm very confused! I just read through this entire thread and saw WebmasterPete's post about being assigned to a standard room when he stayed Concierge last weekend at AKL. I had thought all Concierge guests were assigned to deluxe rooms. Now I'm really confused as well!

Hi 'AKL for Me"

Welcome to the DIS boards and have fun planning your trip.

I have stayed at AKL Concierge twice, both times on the 5th floor.
I have seen a room on the 6th floor and it is identical to the 5th floor except the balcony has a thatched roof over it.

I beleive all the 5th floor rooms are deluxe rooms.. they are 'slightly' larger than standard and have a make up mirror & robes.

They come with either 2 queen beds, 1 queen, twin bunks and a day bed or a king bed and a day bed.

I think the view from 5 is much nicer if you are facing the Arusha Savanna. If you on on 5 facing the sunset savanna then it would be the same as on 6 as the sunset savanna is the view from there too.

You will have a beautiful room, excellent service and a wonderful holiday if you choose AKL Concierge.

Hi,

All of the concierge rooms are "deluxe" rooms but that do not all have daybeds. "Deluxe" at the AKL just means that it is larger then the standard sized rooms. Technically all of the concierge rooms are located on the 5th and 6th floors. Only the 6th floor is key access as non concierge guests also stay on the 5th floor if they book a deluxe room. We were in a room on the 5th floor this past Feb 2003 when we stayed concierge and our view was great. I would suggest a view of Arusha Room. I hope you have a great time.

Wow. How were you able to tell that the rooms you were given were standard size and not deluxe size?

AKL for ME;
RE. your question about response time on emails...I have emailed akl cONCIERGE three times since August 31st and have yet to receive an email back. I did receive a fax of the list of resort activities, which was one of the requests I had on my first email, SO i KNOW THEY RECEIVED IT AND ARE WORKING ON MY REQUESTS. I also determined from calling WDW-DINE that another of my requests from this original email - PS at California Grill - had been taken care of, so I was very happy about that. My 2 most recent emails - both within the past 4 days - concerned gifts for the room and a spa appt., among other things. I am really hoping to get an email reply soon. I think they act on the emails but aren't very good about sending you an email to confirm...I've also called several times and gotten the answering machine. I got a message each time. That's why I ended up emailing them. Anyway, I am just hoping for the best and really feel confident all of my requests will be taken care of. Of course I'll follow up if I don't hear something from them soon (or see some charges go thru on my card in the next couple of weeks;) Good luck!

Thanks for that info Johnsonet. It's a little discouraging to me that they wouldn't respond to an email...at least some sort of confirmation that they received it. I thought that emailing would be a less intrusive way of communicating with them. I do hope they respond back to me (and you).

We are going in December. DH called them a little while ago to find out about the Sunrise Safari and at that point they asked him for his wishes so we e-mailed them in. Then we added a few like Cindy's. Jack has been the great fellow he gets to talk to.

We just received in the mail this week a packet with questions for us to answer and send back.

Meanwhile - JACK IS THE MAN because he secured us the Cindy's reservation since my DH did not get out of the shower until 7:10 and you all know what that means.....

So calling them helped us out and now we communicate both by phone and e-mail.

So - maybe ask for JACK since he sent a little pixie dust our way this week!

We have never been to the AKL but are really looking forward to it! :)

We will be staying here at the end of November. We recieved our packet about a month ago, filled it out requesting the Sunrise Safari and a few other things. I sent an email out around our 90 day mark to double check on the safari, since this is a REALLY important part of our stay. I received an email back from Jack the next day assuring me that everything was taken care of and to call him at my convience to to go over the details. I can hardly wait to get there!

We are planning WAY ahead and have AKL concierge ressies 12/2004. When should I expect to hear from the concierge staff?

Thanks in advance:D

mari--I would email them in early September next year. They probably wo'nt contact you until at least that time.

Anne

mari... I think you should drop them a line 90 days prior to your arrival. That is when most of of the restaurant reservations can be booked.

To my experience AKL calls about 60 days prior... but if I were you I would take the initiative to contact them and get the ball rolling at 90 days.

I would not contact them any sooner as there is really nothing they can do at this point and I find that if you plan things too early you end up changing much of it as your plans develop.

thanks for the help. I'll put the info on my time line. I am already starting to dream Disney!:Pinkbounc

hey
Just wanted to say Jack is "the man". He helped us so much. He searched for just the right gift for my boyfriends birthday. We had a cake and some surprises in the room when we arrived and he even made sure he got a cookie to paint and a certificate at Princess storybook breakfast. He is awesome !!!!
He is one of the reasons we will definitely return to AKL !!!!
