AKL Concierge Experts Question

I adore my father-in-law, who fell in love with AKL a few weeks ago. Now he's interested in planning a trip there.

Please post here if you know where the concierge rooms are. Are they bigger than the standard rooms? Do they ALL have savannah views? And just for fun (not as if he'd actually stay there), where's the Presidential Suite? (He has the floor plan of the resort, so I only need to know #'s.)

The concierge rooms are on the fifth and sixth floor. I stayed on the fifth floor while in concierge, and had a gorgeous view of the savannah. I don't know if all the concierge rooms have savannah views, but my room was a little larger from the other savannah rooms I'd stayed in previously, and there was a fridge in the room.

It was great fun staying on the fifth floor b/c there is a bridge that goes across the fifth floor of the lobby that was lots of fun. You have to put your card key in the elevator to get to the sixth floor lounge. We went on the sunrise safari which is offered to concierge guests on certain mornings (ours was a Tuesday at about 6 am). I loved the cappucino machine...I made about 3 or 4 a day . We loved sampling the dinner food from Boma in the evenings, and the great cookies they put out around (my son's ) bedtime.

Yes, I loved AKL's concierge. We'd had better service in our regular savannah rooms, however. There was some continual computer problem that created problems w/ our reservations. We even got checked out of our room at one point, inadvertantly. Hopefully this stuff has been smoothed out b/c we'd never had any problems during other stays. I will definitely keep going to AKL, it was one of our favorites. I doubt I'd spend the extra money on concierge there, again--though it was lovely to try once .

Some of the concierge rooms on the 6th floor have pools views, not savannah views.

We stayed on the 5th floor and had a wonderful view. The other couple with us on the sunset safari were on the 6th. They sd their view wasn't as good as one they had before on the 5th. They showed us where the room was and I could see why. The edges of the roof over hung abit.

The concierge rooms are deluxe rooms and bigger than the standard rooms. But you do not have to get concierge to get a deluxe room. All the rooms on the 5th floor are deluxe, but not all are concierge.

Do all of the concierge rooms now have fridges? I was under the impression that you had to rent them by the day. How big are they?

Our fridge was included in the room rate, as it was in the room upon check-in and there was no extra fee. It is the size of one of those dorm fridges. Small but worked fine for us .

We stayed at AKL concierge in December (5th floor). Although we enjoyed our stay we will go non-concierge next time and get a room on a lower floor. It seems the lower you are, the better the views of the animals.

I have stayed AKL CL twice, but have never had an "official" CL room. Both instances were by choice. My first trip started with a standard savannah day, followed by CL days, ending with astandard savannah day. I wanted to keep my room for the entire time rather than move up a floor to the deluxe rooms (and then possibly down again the last day). We loved our room, and it was in a fantastic area on the end of Zebra Trail, fourth floor.
The second time we were on the fifth floor *concierge all of the days*, but I requested the very end of the Trail once again. I love it out there, and although the walk is long, the view and spectacular! Turns out DH would have preferred pool view/sixth floor/ near the lounge since he wasn't thrilled about the animals, but DS and I knew what and where we wanted since we were the first to "try out" AKL CL!

Fridges are part of the CL rooms now. We had to request one since our room wasn't a normal CL room this past trip. It ended up on our bill, but the concierge desk noticed before I did and took all of the rental days off of our bill immediately.

You're going to love AKL! It is a wild place to be!

So are all the rooms on the 6th floor concierge? How is it determined which rooms on 5th floor are conc.? Do they jsut decide by how many are booked? Is it only the ones toward center of the lodge, or only ones out on wings?

All sixth floor rooms are concierge. The pool view side rooms are smoking optional while the sunset savannah side rooms are non smoking. BambiTamby has a listing of what each room contains for bed configurations on the sixth floor. I believe the fifth floor rooms are mostly towards the middle for a deluxe savannah view. I know the one bedroom and two bedroom suites are on the ends of the wings, and those also include concierge. I hope this isn't too confusing! Remember, the sixth floor does not continue out "wing-wise" like the other floors do.
