We are staying for the first time at AKL Concierge this December after transferring over from Poly. We have ADR's booked for the first 4 days of our trip and CRT breakfast for our last day of our vacation. I purposely have not booked ADR's for dinner with the exception of Boma for our nights at the AKL as we are planning on taking a more leisurely pace towards the end of our trip and will not know for sure where we may end up as far as going back to parks to redo favorites.

My question: Can concierge get day of ADRS for potentially hard to come by restaurants? I'm not talking CRT or LeCellier, but say Ohanas or Chef Mickeys? Can you give me some examples of the way the concierge staff has come through for you.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Also, this is our first split stay and since we will not be utilizing our park tickets on our check-in date I was wondering whether we would be able to have access to the concierge lounge prior to a room being available to us? We will probably be checking out of Poly and taking our bags with us to AKL via cab. We would like to partake in some of the AKL activities on this day since it is a rest day for us. Is heading over at 11 am too early?

Any tips would really be appreciated.

When we stayed at AKL concierge, they helped us with a Calif Grill ADR that I don't think we would have been able to do. The day for Wishes was changed after we made our original ADR. When we got to WDW, we asked them to please change it to the new day. It took them several days .. and waiting for an opening, but they got it for us.

Yes, you can use the lounge before your room is ready. A WDW "suit" will take you right up there when you arrive to check in. It was so nice sitting at a desk .. sipping delicious iced tea as I checked in. You are welcome to stay until your room is ready. I'm sure you could join the kids' activities.

Awesome, Cooldisneycat. It sounds like it will be a breeze. Now I am so excited about doing the split stay and getting to explore the AKL. I have always wanted to stay there and am thrilled to be doing the Sunrise Safari. It will probably be a once in a lifetime thing for us.

Just so there is no misunderstanding though, concierge can only get you a same day reservation if there is availability. I know in other luxury hotels, many restaurants have tables set aside for last minute concierge guests, but that doesn't hold true for Disney. About the only advantage that the concierge staff has is that they are sitting by their computer terminals all day and they can easily keep an eye out for cancellations. The more time you can give them to look for an opening, the better.
