Akershus question...

I have read that Akershus is seemingly changing their menu and going to character meals for all three meals. Can someone tell me where I can call or look to get confirmation of this?? The update on allearsnet only indicates that lunch will be a character meal and they haven't changed the menu.

Akershus is one of our "must do's" for this trip but I'm not certain I like the changes. Is it possible that dinner will not change?? :confused3

I made PS's for the Princess Dinner for the 18th of April. My understanding is that as of April 10th it will host both a Princess breakfast & dinner. The dinner is supposed to be Norweign food for the adults & a childrens menu will be offered. I hope that answers your question. princess: :wizard:

Akershus is changing to 3 princess character meals per day. Breakfast is strictly American. Lunch and dinner will feature American food for kids plus Norwegian menu (I for one am betting the Norwegian part doesn't last too long). Service will be family style at the table (most likely, that means no more cold buffet).

Has anyone done the character breakfast there? How does it compare to Cindy's? Thought we might do this one instead--but I don't want DD to be disappointed if the ambience isn't as realistic and magical as it is at the castle.

I'm quite sure that I'm going to get flamed here, but I think it's a darn shame that they're turning Akershus into a "Princess meal" restaurant. The beauty of eating in the restaurants in these various countries is to experience exotic foods and customs. Akershus is a very authentic Norwegian restaurant. My husband and I spent 10 days in Norway last year and remarked at how Disney did a great job replicating restaurants from that country.

So now what does Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty have to do with Norway?

OK, they needed a new Princess breakfast to take overflow from Cindy's. The food is American and that's OK because it's breakfast. But I'm hearing that the food will be "Americanized" for lunch and dinner? That's crazy.

Oh well, it is all about the $$$$. I'll go put my flame resistant suit on now.

I am pretty disappointed that they're doing this as well. We love this restaurant because the food is not readily available where we live (unlike Mexican, Chinese, etc) and the atmosphere is so great. I haven't heard anything about the lunch and dinner menus getting Americanized, but this may be the direction they're heading.

Send your complaints to Disney. Maybe they will change their minds!!!!!

I agree with you completely! I couldn't have said it better myself. :)

No flames from me. They're ruining a perfectly good restaurant. Why can't they turn the old Odessey restaurant building into princess meals? Sure they will make the money on the character meals but they will be driving others (like me) away. Write and complain, can't hurt.

I have already emailed to complain! Waiting to see what their reply is now.
Claire ;)

What they are saying is that lunch and dinner will have an Americanized children's menu, and Norwegian adult menu. Don't know how long that will last, though.

Great idea about writing Disney!! Actually, I'll be there in 21 days (woohoo), maybe I'll try and speak to someone then.

I normally take the changes that Disney makes in stride, but this seems to have struck a bad chord with me. Even if they don't "Americanize" the adult meals, I still think that having character meals at Norway is a mistake.

I so totally agree with an earlier poster that stated they could use the Odyssey as a "Princess meal spot".

Leave the restaurants in World Showcase alone Disney !!!!

I think I need another cup of coffee, I'm very cranky this morning. :)

Any word on how much the prices will be going up for lunch and dinner? I really want to eat there in May, but am not interested in the characters, so why should I have to pay for them?

While I am happy that they added a princess meal or two- I am not happy about potentially losing the Norwegian food. I can't imagine a "country" in EPCOT going all American. I hope that is not true..

Disney should have turned that old, I think it was Oddessey restaraunt in Future world into a Character dining establilshment.

I just called to make a PS for the princess lunch on april 24th and was told I could only do so if there was a child in my party. My friend and I will be celebrating my birthday and thought this would be fun. I was also told that the same is true for CRT breakfast. I understand that these reservations are very hard to get but has this always been the policy or is it new? as for Akershus, does this mean that adults without children will no longer be able to dine at this restaurant? I really wanted to try this place.

I was very sorry to hear that the Akershus restaurant cold buffet is being canceled. My DH and I loved it. As several others have mentioned, Chinese, Mexican, French and Italian restaurants are fairly easy to come by in many areas, but Norwegian are not. I agree that the old restaurant in Future World would have been a great location to renovate and re-use as a character meal venue. Does anyone have a contact at WDW for lodging a complaint?

I'm going to call back and speak with someone else just to be sure I was given the correct information.
