Just returned from WDW. While at Tusker House breakfast, we noticed a very large crane just beyond the bridge to Africa, which is now blocked on one side with an imagineering wall. We asked Our server about it and he said he couldn't confirm or deny that it was site prep for avatar land and couldn't confirm or deny that FEstival of the LK was moving behind Tusker House. Have I missed any official word? Any truth to this?

Relocation of FOTLK

Should get an announcement at d23

Is FOTLK already temporarily closed? How long will it take for it to reopen elsewhere?
FOTLK and Nemo are my favorite stage shows at WDW.

No
My guess it will close for a couple of weeks sometime this fall
Avatar construction will start sometime in fall as well

Hopefully September :). I'd rather it be open when I go in late October/Early November.

I'm assuming that you're guessing that Avatar land is going to happen too?

Well nothing leads to it stopping i think disney could do better but I think it still going to happen no matter what people think.

disney lover at heart

FOTLK will run where it is until the new theater is ready. It will be probably be closed very briefly

I'm not sure why it should need to close at all, or at the most for one day. All of the props could easily move down the path overnight. Give the cast members a day to practice in the new digs, and turn them loose.

These are for the most part NOT virgin trees. Disney planted most of them when AK was built.

In fact Disney has whole tree farms on property to grow/replace the trees they require.

AKK

Depends on how much equipment they are going to re-use. If they are going to use the existing lighting and sound equipment for example, that will take some time to transfer.

I would assume there will be some updating and at least minor changes with the new venue. There are acrobats and practicing to consider and I'm guessing the apparatus they use would take at least a few days to disassemble and reassemble in the new location.

What else would be happening that would make Disney spend the money to move FOTLK?

Can't think of any other rumors that make sense. I know a lot of people hate the idea and keep hoping it won't happen, but it was announced and I would be surprised if it was not going to happen eventually.

It's obviously going to be some kind of expansion of Animal Kingdom but whether it's Avatar-based or based on something else is certainly open for discussion. Especially considering there is been only one movie and overall it hasn't created a large cult following I'm not sure it's worth a huge investment like a new land would take.:rolleyes1

It's really not open for discussion. They announced a land based on Avatar in conjunction with James Cameron, to begin construction in 2013. They're moving FotLK theater now... what year is it?
